Pennsic COTT English Recruitment thread!
I know its early, but I wanted to get a list going of people who plan to side with the English this coming Pennsic for the Combat of the Thirty. I have started a facebook page, since not everyone is a follower of the archive, and it can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1469646156630110...

Hedinn, there was rain? All I remember was Glory.
Virtue was your umbrella.
Very true actually. I completely forgot the rain until I saw it in the pictures.

Re: Does anyone else hate being group marshal?
I did it for years. Eventually it felt too much like work. Everyone else could take a day off and not show up with no work at all. If I wanted to skip a practice I needed to call around and find a replacement of practice had to be cancelled. With no other marshalls in the area it wasnt a simple thin...

Re: Warriors of History Tourney
With out knowing, pure guess, I'd say scheduling. Lots of schedule issues this year.
Our left handed tourney only got 8 people, when normally we get 15-20. We got a 10 am spot when we asked for afternoon.

I completely disagree on the mystery drink thing. The days of strawberry surprise are long gone guys. In 13 pennsics, I have never seen these evil people who try to poison you with something vile and undrinkable. In fact everyone who offered me something was generous and in general fun to be around. ...

Dont stay in camp. If you are in camp you are missing something. You can find parties most nights by following the noise downhill. Some are private but most will let you in. You can get lost at night down in the woods around the lake. I recommend it. Some of the places are just really something to s...

Re: Safety... meh
The only real fear I have in SCA battles is getting crushed by having 6 300 pound guys pile on top of me. My armor has a hard time stopping that, and its why I rarely fall down when I die in melees.
I have little fear of the weapons, but the spears have had more then their share of injuries.

The final call is up to the captains, but I really cant see you being turned away. Your kit is easily good enough and better than some I have seen that made it in. If the count is under 60 then I doubt there will be any cuts and it certainly wont be you dropped first. I would show up and plan to fig...

Re: CoTT English change of Command
There hasn't really been a roster for a while. If you feel you meet the grade, show up and most likely you will be in.
There is usually a thread of people declaring, but so many people have plans change that it really comes down to who actually shows up on the day.

Re: LITERALLY a ransom fit for a King! (Why do the Deed...)
My wife does the negotiations for my release, and gives a piece of her jewelry, a pearl necklace with semiprecious stones. As much as she likes me to fight well, she is disappointed when she doesn't get to ransom me. I have received coins, rings, pieces of armor, and a few pieces of glassware. To be...

After 3 shots to the same spot in a row, I would stop the fight and tell the guy that I obviously have a hole in my defenses. Would he mind taking a minute and helping me figure out how to close it? I've done this on many occasions, and never had anyone say no. Some people are trying to win the prac...

Athelmaerk war practice 2006. I challenged the entire royalist/chivalric culture to a fight to the death. A highlight for me as well.
