Re: Viking/norse sword scabbard

It's kinda right. The keeper on the scabbard is accurate with the carved decoration being speculative. The way it is secured to the scabbard with the leather is also accurate. The use of a belt instead of a baldric is suspect. The pattern of the leather going around the scabbard and under the keeper...

From outside in Icefalcon rivetted Mail Linen tunic WMA lamellar plates: two rows over kidneys and one row over floating ribs all laced together and sewn to Padded vest (outer shell linen - inside 100% cotton batting, 3 layers) I find that if I wet the padded vest before fighting i have ZERO heat is...

Haldan- The upper one is that Norse folder with two blades, right? I have some other images of it, and I've been thinking of making one for a while. The biggest obstacle has been materials for the scales; Bone would be best, and I have not gotten around to looking for bone scales yet. (Had a lot on...

Looking for a High End Winged Spearhead

Greetings all!

I'm looking to purchase/ commission a high end viking winged spear head. I'm looking for pattern welded with silver inlay.
Preferably in the US.

I'm looking specifically for the bottom spearhead in the attached photo.

Any ideas?

Thanks much!

no no.... I'm aware (having read many times) that chainmail on its own is next to useless, and that chainmail over padding is tons more useful. I just don't see the point in wearing chainmail at all, since there's no slashing or piercing to stop. It's not like you can look through my tabard and see...

Re: Surcote construction/authenticity question

An alternate method of making the stripes is to have two layers of cloth sewn together, one red, one yellow. On the top layer make your marks and sew the lines down. Then take a sharp knife and cut out the 'wrong' color for the top layer. One they are all cut, go back and finish the edges. The advan...

Actually, a woman wearing trousers as a man is one of the valid reasons for divorce in Norse society.

Re: Hidden Armor Advice for a Norse Persona?

I'd think twice about a canvas drop cloth. Medium weight linen (even multiple layers if nessecary) would get you more bang for the buck, be less likely to shrink, have more physical integrity, and as an added bonus, will keep you much cooler.

The price of a Viking ship / boat depends primarily on the production method, which greatly impacts the hours required. If everything is to be completely aut...

Coupla things: 1. The apron dress seemed to mostly die out in the mid 900's. 2. If you are looking at 'the Viking age' for time frame (790-1066 roughly) then Saxon would work as well. A good resources is: http://regia.org/members/handbook/saxon.pdf 3. Slavic may work as well. Here are some pictures ...

While I REALLY love this one, it's kinda out of my budget...

See Mykaru, that was one of the issues. What is the signal? A red belt? Well and good. We all know what Red is. A brown belt with a kind of reddish hue? (from above) A red tinted black belt? Well, Maybe if it's Wednesday and you squint?
