If you want this type of thing, I highly recommend "The Medieval Armour from Rhodes", although it's out of print, as far as I can tell, and the quality of the pictures is hardly in the same universe as the Churburg book. I recall hearing that Chivalry Bookshelf was working on a book called "Survivin...

Just got my copy this afternoon from FedEx (2nd delivery attempt). I've only skimmed through it for about 1/ 2 hour, but here is my impressionistic review: The downside: It was clearly done as "art" photography (and what photography it is!), rather than intended for people who want to repro armour, ...

I'm really interested in seeing that book. Can you bring it on Sunday? -Christian What about shaving? Any idea how that would have been gone about? Mention has been made of copper for razor blades, but what form would the razor have taken? Particularly in 14thC Europe? I picked up a book at the Muse...

I was re-reading this thread and I noticed that I had said I'd post a pic of the spaudler from the Philly museum. Since "Better Late Than Never" should be my family motto, here it is. I apologize for the quality of the pic, but I did the best I could under the circumstances. BTW, the buckles at the ...

Dan, I hope this exchange won't discourage you from staying in business. It seems you are the "go to guy" for medieval curbolli armour. I don' know any other armourer that makes it at the same quality as your work. I was especally impressed by the 14th century rarbrace that you repro'ed (I saw it at...

That is an awsome collection of photos! I think they will very useful to me and many other armourers. Thank you for fufilling so many of my requests. Having never been to the RA in person, I can't tell you where it is. It used to be mounted in composite with the armour in the attached picture, but it clearly no longer is (BTW, I wouldn't mind having shots of that armour, also the famous equestrian gothic armour, if I'm not being too much of a PIT...

I wasn't expecting this thread to come up again! As long as it has, here is a picture of the new version of the arm. I found a diagram on the internet, and it looks like the backplate was made of one large central plate with two smaller extensions attached to the sides, somewhat like several late 15th c Italian backplates from Rhodes. Is this correct? Does having the smaller plates give any movement advantage, or ...

I made my counter punches from dri...

I don't think I've seen any pictures of CH18 from behind. Would anyone care to post some? I'd also like to see how you (Talbot) reconstructed the Churburg plates. -Christian ... I'm personally fond of: Medieval Costume, Armour and Weapons by Eduard Wagner et. al. I'd been looking for this book for years and years before Dover finally reprinted it. Very good source for 14th & 15th century central Europe, though you should be warned that it's all re-drawings rather than photo...

I've been researching a similar topic. I don't think a surviving homogeneous armour of the type you want exists. Funny you should mention that. I was just thinking about making something like a Churburg 14 bp, but made out of couboulli. However, if you could do it for a decent price, I'd just as soon buy it from you. I'd really be interested in something more globous than what you show in the picture, though. ...

Re: German Knightly Class 1480's Covered Breastplate Example
Looks much more like late 14th/early 15th c to me. I would be very much surprised if it dated later than 1520, on both stylistic grounds and the configuration of the armour. -Christian ... On a related note, I always liked the covered split breastplate on the St. Michael and the Dragon illumination....
