Re: Woods Battle 2010

Not that much. Most is virginia creeper (a harmless lookalike) Huh? Virginia creeper looks nothing like poison ivy. It looks close enough that it's listed as a look-alike plant in most landscaping references. The most obvious difference is that Virginia Creeper has 5 leaflets. But that's the only s...

I use them when I elect to cover my ribs at all. they're nice and light and cover sufficiently if you have a quick elusive style. If you're a close-in "thug" style fighter they might not give you enough protection.

With regard to horses at Pennsic. Back in the mists of time they were once allowed. A specific incident caused the Cooper's to banish horses from the site. I won't go into detail, but let it suffice to say that a mounted rider was thrown from their horse and said horse then ran in a panic *through* ...

I read the book a few months ago and really enjoyed the story. Though the combat and armor description was somewhat lacking, I found the story itself to be compelling. And all the intrigue and machinations that took place were interesting as hell too :-)

Heh... yup it sure has :-) I take away the whole offside game when I fight versus a lefty. I alter my stance such that the left handed fighter is forced into an on side attack, for which I have a pretty decent defense and counter punch. Of course it also depends on the fighter, I went topside agains...

The knights so it because it is culturally accepted and the unbelts do it in imitation of the knights. Do better guys, that is all I'm saying. I don't think it's being overly critical at all, I completely agree. However, I think the poor footing caught a few of us off guard. For me personally, the next step in my kit will be to find some footwear that will work regardless of how wet/muddy/sloping/bumpy the ground :-)

What Rob said :-) Though my reponse here is more openly "persona" based... the general idea applies, I think, to the discussion at hand. The SCA allows for (if not actively encourages) the exception rather than the rule. This is *not* necessarily a bad thing as it allows for exploration and increasi...
