Re: Mid 14th century Fingered Gauntlets and Vambraces projec
The effigy examples I saw seem to show the plates on top of the leather, unlike a number of the Wisby type fingered gauntlets. I only used the Wisby type gauntlets as a reference, but was guided in my design and style by the effigies.

Re: Mid 14th century Fingered Gauntlets and Vambraces projec
SCA Combat. The wrist has a good range of motion. No less than a pair of Wisby #1 gauntlets. The plates are attached to leather and function like a Coat-of-Plates for "articulation".

Mid 14th century Fingered Gauntlets and Vambraces project
A little bit ago, a friend (and client) came to me asking to make a certain type of gauntlets and vambraces. The only source were a few effigy pics. http://effigiesandbrasses.com/media/cache/effigiesandbrasses.com/original/oliver_ingham_s21_r524_large.jpg http://effigiesandbrasses.com/media/cache/ef...

Re: Any Interest in Rawhide Sides or Strips?
That answers my question. I will make a trial purchase and see how it goes. I dread wetting it and cutting it, as it smells, well like rawhide, lol. The strips should be a bit cheaper than the sources I have seen of late. What width will you need for a good shield? 2 1/2-3" Personally, I use 3" str...

Re: i bought a kiln, how do i heat treat and temper ?
Its important to use non additive oils though... you really don't want some things penetrating the surface of your steel and crapping it up. I have used clean oil, dirty oil, clean trans fluid, dirty trans fluid, water, brine and did tests with vinegar and even baking soda water. There were no sign...

Re: i bought a kiln, how do i heat treat and temper ?
Just remember that if you are using a controller/SSR/thermocouple to control the heat in your kiln, make sure the parameters are properly set-up (RTFM). Also, if you have to add an extension, make damn sure you do not have the wires touching (a "cold junction"). That'll drive you nuts! Also, if you...

Having been a marshal in two kingdoms over the last 9 years, my opinion would be no. Though gorgeous, those gaunts would be like punch daggers are could easily slip between a bargrill or into an eyeslot.Stefan ap Llewelyn wrote:Are these SCA legal?

Re: I'm considering buying from Blankenshield armoury
Sweet. I'm skinny as hell, but by his estimate I can carry 70 pounds of kit... Some of the big boys in the SCA can wear a kit that outweighs me! I have to disagree with the weight thing. I am 5'9" and 190 and my kit weighs ~40lbs. with all armour bits I have, including a mail standard. It is compri...
