The weight of the basket goes a long way to negating the mass of the head.
This takes away from what makes the weapon potentially a blast to use.
Like Dreffan/Muttman above, this was my weapon form of choice. I found the more weight in the hand the less the "pendulum" like advantage you have.

5 gallon buckets hold up well, My St Maurice style cote had just a single layer and when worn with a padded cote and maile shirt provided excellent protection.

Most electric kilns use a kiln sitter, the pyrometric cone is used to hold trigger contacts closed, when the cone sags the trigger is released turning off the kiln.

I would imagine pulling a bodkin from someone with your hand could be difficult being all bloody and slippery and possibly wedged in so muscle and bone.
