Re: Working in the cold
When I have to go out to the shop to work I can heat the place with the kiln or powder coating oven but when I was working off the back porch just a hair dryer or paint stripper made a lot of difference to warm my hands and tools.

Think I remember Ugo raising some pieces with those pyramids awhile back. Could well have been this suit that inspired him.

Ultuna Helmet Question
I have a quick question regarding the Ultuna helmet.
Can anyone tell me the average width of the woven band/straps?
My web-fu is weak today and at best guess from the pics I can find I'm guessing around 3/4-1 inch?

I rig something like this as a redneck slide caliper: https://scontent-ort2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/550341_4074475984192_1783663534_n.jpg?oh=35f76705390442148b973a1e804d956d&oe=58CA24EC Then take front to back, side to side, and crown height measurements. I've had decent success with them for round head brass and steel rivets. I usually make my own brass washers.

I cut 14ga mild with my Harbor Freight shear all the time. 12 ga in aluminum on occasions. But it gets stubborn with even 18ga stainless.

Use aluminum and 18ga for for the tiny tots. Go heavier as they out grow them and get bigger. https://scontent-dfw1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xaf1/v/t1.0-9/534965_3433366436854_1856809212_n.jpg?oh=3efc234804aa1f5d63e6af603efe88c8&oe=56D9D67D https://scontent-dfw1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xaf1/v/t1.0-9/52...

Just lay the barrel on its side and build a small clay dam around the patch, fill it with water and see if it leaks.

Re: Easybake Armor: The Sculpted Plastic Armor Project
Random thought, but with your cop setup, what if you were to extend the clamp for the shaping pieces further out and mount them on hinges?
Might help with ease of production, stretch the plastic and just flip the clamp over and set your screws.

Found this, clamp a thin shim stock between the plate and drill hole to length then remove shim to use. I'd anchor the plate to the jaws better. http://youtu.be/qDRjYu4BZLE I've wanted to set up something like this with my air jack to do decorative rivet heads for years but still havent gotten aroun...

I use a small bottle jack on the inside to tweak some helmets. Just recheck your rivets after you do it, some might loosen.

Was give some equipment of a old friend that pasted away recently. :( He was one of the firsts to get me involved in the SCA. A Champion blacksmiths forge with hand crank blower, an Emerson Anvil 50lbs, 2 plastic garbage cans full of coal and a smelters pot and spoon. https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akama...

Methyl Ethyl Ketone can do savage enough things to your cells and innards, leaving you with chronic solvent sensitivities, that I doubt you'd be wanting to mess with it. Side note, I suffer from this. Most paints, perfumes, colognes, and hairsprays will give me headaches and nausea. I had a waitres...

Kinda reminds me of the clamp my dad had for holding handsaws for sharpening. Clamps to a sawhorse then insert saw teeth upward and clamp the leaver down to hold it.
