Very heavy Mongolian style lamellar jawshan for sale

I am selling this for a house-brother who is no longer fighting. Price is $300 firm - it's a beautiful piece of work, and the owner just wants to see it being used, so that is the lowest price. Period. HEAVYWEIGHT Mongolian-style jawshan. This was made by Precious Lotus Blossom (Ross Purcell) out of...

OT - 5.11 Tacttical Kilt

Brand new, never worn 5.11 Tactical Kilt in khaki. Size 38 waist, 23" length. I am 6'5" and this hits right at the appropriate length. I ordered this when I around 220 lbs (I have bumped that up a bit, so I need to get one that fits beefier Sasha. :D) http://www.511tactical.com/catalog/product/view/...

Re: Six Board Chest Question

I dowel mine together, so those are dowelled also. So just drilled in from the side panels? Thanks! Yup. I do the sides and ends first, so that I can make a really good fit (unless it is for a cooler/ice chest box - then I don't worry about it). I drill the sides and ends first, then get the bottom...

Re: Hussar wings in SCA combat

Okay, I am retired from fighting, but I do belong to a Hussar reenactment group (outside the SCA). I tried on one of the cuirasses with wings out of curiousity - and Jester is right - the kind of bladework we do in the SCA is going to be COMPLETELY FUCKED up and hampered by the wings. As Jester said...

There's ash - best bending stuff evar. Bending ash is suuuupppeeerrr smooth. I was chatting with one of my Turkish friends, and he thinks that the zilli bendir I was thinking of at the Topkapi is made from hornbeam (a very common wood for lutherie in Anatolia) - which the Turks call düt (doot) and ...

...also bending a hoop can be as simple as just using a couple of good C-clamps (I have done so for both cold- and steamed hoops) - especially if it's a one-off project.

A friend who makes frame drums professionally has several jigs that he uses, but used C-clamps when he started out.

Good luck!

Lute staves tend to be quite a bit thinner than drum hoops, though - 2-3 mm compared to 6-9 for drum hoops. Yeah.. drum/tambourine/whatever hoops are more the thickness of sound boards, rather than body side/backs. I still think, a slipglue form (using hide glue) of wood A on the outside and wood B...

There are several examples of zilli bendir and riqqs at the Topkapi, and were part of the traveling exhibits in 1992 and '96.
