Does the jar have to be stone (as in part of the chemical proccess), or can it be glass and still get the same effect?
Also, how wide is the belt? Do you have a pattern you would be willing to share?

Thanks. That was the first time I've seen pics of hardening leather. A couple of questions though. 1. What kind of wax do you use? 2. What does the stearic acid do for it? 3. Will this armor soften in the hot summer sun? 4. It looks like the die runs into the wax, if your doing different colors, say...

How do I make a Patern for a helmet liner
I have a conical helm that I would like to make a period liner for. The helmet will be for SCA use and the helmet is almost complete except for the grill for the front. I'm asking if anyone has recommendations for making a pattern for this. The padding needs to protect the back and sides as well as ...

I am in favor of some kind of standard but I think to limit it to metric or American is in error. I think since in the US we are on one system and that's what our customers know, and the rest of the world knows the metric system we should use both and make our standard translates. And on the more co...

Cat, I love the shape of these. Nice work. I would have to agree with Schreiber about wearing them tight. For heads that small I would deffenitly want them. If you had bigger rivets then probably not. I'm a SCA fighter and I started out in loaner gear. I know this is just an after thought, but what if you put brass rivets under the head of the rivet to give not only more surface area for the head to hold onto the leather, but that would make a pretty cool contrast. Red leather to brass to steel. It's probably not period, but it would look pretty c...
