I know you said this is not how you want to make maille but it works for me. Just a sample of the many differant ways to get it done. I'm also one that goes for the K.I.S.S. method. Not much help for you, but I hope everyone enjoys it.

I made mine using that pattern and did not notice it being short. The point of mine goes about three inches below my chin.

I order from them all the time. Their shipping charge is normally very reasonable. They are fast too. Only once was I disapointed in them. They charged me $20 bucks to ship $15 dollars worth of material. Normally it runs about $8-$10. But no, you don't know what the shipping cost is until it gets to...

Leg question from the pattern archive (Sinric’s).

I am working on a pair of legs from Sinric's pattern and was wondering what the best way to strap them is. I have a good idea of where they go but I want to be sure. I assume one strap goes around the wrap plates, but I'm wondering where the buckle goes (outside of leg/inside), one strap behind the ...

Well, I started with maille in general when I was very young. I have a piece of what I now know to be Japanese's weave I did in the "fithish" grade. I guess things progressed from there. I learned to make basic 4-1, then I made a piece or two. At some time I learned that authentic pieces in museums ...

Ahhhh, like black oxide. That crap rubs right off. We have a lot of oxide hardware here at work. Your hands are black when your done! At least it washes off easy.
The annealed wire doesn't have any finish to it at all, just the black "mill scale" type stuff. It's just black from the heating.

Anodizing is for aluminum silly rabbit. (Oxidized maybe? http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/tongue.gif ) I use the black annealed stuff for my maille and I have found it works best when you normalize (anneal) it after you coil and cut it. I do it before I flatten and punch it. I also normalize the riv...

16 ga= .0548-.0648
14 ga= .0697-.0797
13 ga= .0847-.0947

If I'm not mistaken, that's some pretty thick stuff. 16 ga. is the min. here in An Tir (I think the known world too). 14 ga is consider good. I would think 12 would be way to heavy. But you would'nt worry about dents.
