Yeah - don't know. I also suspect it isn't going to bend like regular plywood, but that's conjecture.

Compressed and collapsing cell walls. So, heavy. Very heavy. maybe not as heavy as steel, but still, likely too heavy for shields.

Re: Neck-rondells in bascinets, fiction or not?

Rondels everywhere. Seems some of those armour bits are similar to what you see medieval artists putting on greekoid and romainish "historical" armours. Since the title of this book is "Flavius Josephe, ANTIQUITES JUDAÏQUES" it's probably depicting some ancient battle and highly suspect as source ma...

Re: Neck-rondells in bascinets, fiction or not?

Do you remember where did you see those pictures, or do you have a link to them? I remember that the sallet with the rondell on the back was in an illumination distinctly mid century 15th century French. The others weren't smoking gun enough to be worth sharing. If it's that late in 15th, quite pos...

Because in history, all you have is evidence, absence from the evidence is absence unless you find evidence. Excusing for basics of biology and the like. The reality is that they are probably making the correct assessment, but if you look hard enough, there is a decent chance you can find a piece o...

Re: Oil-Blackening Mild Steel

* it really is a bit like painting... Oil paint is oil (most often linseed oil) and pigment. One common and very old pigment is lamp black, which is the black soot from burned oil - so oil blackening is pretty much like creating a layer of black oil paint. I've done just that before - added lampbla...
