Thanks, Dobriny! I'm already familiar with your FB page and other sites, and I've started a preliminary discussion with Alexander (not sure which one) regarding a commission. I'm just looking for some references like the one from Alan to see what kind of history and reputation you guys have. All my ...

Recommendations/references for "Battle Forge"
I'm considering placing a commission order for armor with Serg/Alexander at "Battle Forge" (http://www.facebook.com/groups/205900512782913/). Has anyone here done business directly with this company? Has anyone commissioned them? What are your experiences?

Re: Full Metal Jousting
A little defensive about the armor, Rod ;) ? Are those McClellan saddles? And what is up with the barding? The look isn't Knightriders, it's First Knight (Ironman would have been an improvement)! This appears to be yet another take on modern jousting, and I'm sure they riders are skillful and play h...

Re: Worst Pennsic XL Moments!
I feel you are being overly harsh, Eff. In the case of the Ansteoran knight, he may have been considered a credible, "expert" witness when he testified that Flieg appeared to be under control when he collided with the archer. I have no problem with this. My concern is that, in an honor-based society...

Re: Worst Pennsic XL Moments!
An arrow under the conventions of Pennsic that strikes the torso or face of a combatant is a kill. Your comment piqued my curiosity regarding Pennsic-specific acknowledgement, since West Kingdom convention is still that the fighter calls the blow, blade or shaft. I scoured both the online combat co...

There are two, intertwined issues at hand which I think must still be considered in the context of the greater discussion: I think it's been proven here fairly conclusively that His Grace's honor isn't going to be tarnished by his presence at that Marshal's Court. In fact, it is far more insidious t...

These two sides of the same philosophical coin represent men. Men, all men, are fallible. They can rise or they can fall. I'm not saying he did; I'm saying that just as any other man could, so can he. We do not disagree, BA. A man's reputation, however, is rarely made or destroyed by a single event...

What I draw from your post is that might makes right. Then I fear you miss the thrust of the argument. To Val, me, and others, it is Flieg's reputation that is his greatest defense. In over 40 years at the hazard, Flieg has never been known to harbor resentment or animus in combat. Even the idea th...

But a standing one handed hack with a broadsword? INSTANT DEATH OR DISMEMBERMENT. Seriously, the mail standard is dumb. It has no bearing on whether or not we should allow single handed thrusts in SCA combat or not. And this includes allowing them to the whole head as well. You are setting up a str...

Swords used in my portrayal's time and place had points. So does mine. Points are used to thrust, so I have learned to use it, and do. IIRC, you are doing a Dark Ages impression, implying mail armor for gentle-born/aristocracy. The swords from that time (and later; I lean toward 13th C. English mys...

It's entirely possible to do damage with the point without breaking the mail. It's called 'internal bleeding'. There's lotsd of ways to damage humans where you're not cutting into them. Point penetration and resulting injury w/o rending mail is every bit as possible as edge damage. In both cases yo...

SCA people forgive, forget and tolerate amazing levels of self-delusion. And some pursue only what's important and ignore the rest of the bullsh!t.
