existent 14c gambeson?

Posted by a friend on facebook tonight, I hadn't heard of it before. "The gambeson, article of 14th century military wear, worn by D. João I during the battle of Aljubarrota and that was later offered to St. Mary of Guimarães in gratitude for having won the said battle." http://masampaio.imc-ip.pt/e...

I have no secrets. I readily teach people who come into my shop. The big difference between me and others like me and the rest of people is the eye and talent. There is only so much of that that can be taught either you have it or you don't.

Re: Repairing finger gauntlets

Yes Washers as you describe help. I only use elk hide for finger leathers, strength to flexibility can't be beat for the price (kangaroo is better but far spendier). I've used 3-4oz tooling leather as washers also with contact cement binding them to the original finger leathers.

I'm almost caught up with my back log so will have time soon to take on a few small orders. If you are wanting that something extra in the way of a boss then I can come up with something. Repousse, brass or silver inlay, necked, custom sizes and shapes. http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc7/317...

Here is the last one I did. It came to me with the pin and turning T-post and I replaced with what is pictured. Pics are to big to post in the thread but since detail is the conversation the bigger pics might be more helpful ones reduced to fit. http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/29406_43752...

medieval meets MC Escher (Garb for my laurling)

Since the first time I saw a picture of this outfit I've dreamed of having a replica of it. Thanks to my giving and talented SCA household that dream was turned to reality. The gown was hand block printed linen. The painting is by Jacopo and Francesco Salimbeni, its part of the frescos of the life o...

Couple of pics of the great helm to show its not your run of the mill simple curve helm, lots of subtle graceful lines, as if not a raised from a cone bascinet wasn't good enough.

Nice rig, Brian! I think I saw you across the field at An Tir-West War one year. (You look even better compared to the generiSCAdians in the background!) Shame you have to unload the helmets. If I didn't already have a Pembridge and cervelliere pairing waiting for lining--and if I had the price of ...

selling my bascinet great helm combo

Serious family issues got me way behind, I haven't been able to fight for 2yrs with a torn tendon so with regret I'm offering up my great helm and bascinet combo. The bascinet is raised from a welded cone in 18g fit for a 23 1/2" head. The hand stitched padding is about worn out so I'll make and ins...

rocking horse and spring steel helm Christmas sale

First up. Blackened spring steel bascinet with removable grill. The helm and visor are NOT my work, they are by Duke James Greyhelm. The helm was never used and basically picked up from James and brought to me for upgrades. Top 12g 1050, with 14g back and visor. Commercially hardened and tempered b...

Re: Italiano/German something - request for comment

At the sides the arm hole comes down to a "V", it should come to a nice "U". What you have looks to me to be reminiscent of mid-late 15c armour, in which case the neck line shouldn't be low and straight like you've got. Most of the armours of that time have little gap on top of the shoulders between...

Re: "Gas saver"

I never use a cutting head on my torch. For welding and rosebud tips though I love my gas saver, it reduced my gas usage to about a third of without it. I've got mine mounted on the end of a double swing arm so I can easily move it to where I need it. This also allowed me to to use a shorter hose fr...

Love it! (though I am not a big fan of the blue cord...maybe the flash made it look neon?) How well do the bone needles hold their points? Yep its the flash the overly brightened the blue. As to the needle points, these are ivory not bone but with test and trials with them seem to hold up quite well.

Replacing the handle with a wooden one should kill the ring. My personal one I fence with started as a 12x24 in piece and curved enough to now be 12x12, love it.

Did these for a friend. I tried to get the ratio of the eye to needle diameter closer to a usable aspect. So many of the bones needles I've seen are to huge for the size of eye they have.

Yep, Christ on the buckle, the end piece has Snt Dominic on one side and Snt Catherine of Siena on the reverse. For time and place the Cluny list it as "Northern France or Flanders, end of 15th century".
