Del Tin 12th Century Sword for Sale

Hello! I have a Del Tin Model 2121 sword for sale to a good home. It is a 12th century style, Oakeshott Type XII. This sword is in what I would call "good" condition. It is unsharpened, and I have not used it for any cutting (or much of anything) and the only damage to it is some light pitting on th...

Re: North Carolina SCA Heavy Fighter Practices?

I go to the one in Asheville... I'm pretty sure there is one in Gastonia on Sunday mornings. There may be one in Salisbury... I know there are several down near Reighli9ehgh (however you spell that... it might not have a 9) Are the Asheville practices regular, i.e. weekly? Looking at the Hawkwood s...

North Carolina SCA Heavy Fighter Practices?

Hello all! After several years away from rattan fighting, I'm feeling the itch to get back into it. I live in Winston-Salem, NC and am having a hard time locating any practices near me by going through the official websites. The most recent info I could find here seems to be several years out of dat...

Re: Looking for cheap boffer/LARP stuff for SCA Kandahar Tro

I agree with Maximus that the polyethylene FF uses on their weapons isn't the best, BUT, they sell cheap replacement blade kits that are easy to swap in when the original blade breaks down too far. The A&A swords, while they use better foam, are built in a way that makes them very prone to having th...

Re: LARP Armour has to be ugly ....

Well, sadly, as a long-time Dagorhir fighter, I am inclined to agree that at least Dagorhir armour tends to be ugly. I think this has to do with the fact that Dagorhir is much more of a sport than more traditional LARPs (NERO, e.g.) and as such a lot of participants are more interested in wearing ar...

But you can just say "for the next scenario, we aren't using missiles" and be done with it. Also helms block arrows completely.

EDIT: SCA is actually more LARPy than either Dag or Bel, if you're into it. But you have to roleplay as a noble, so that sort of limits your options.

A spangenhelm with a nasal would probably work fine, especially with an aventail. I sometimes wear a bascinet with an aventail but no visor (as seen in my profile) and I feel very safe. True, bloody noses happen, but it's no worse than being hit in the face with a soccer ball.

I'm very sorry to have offended you. Please accept my apology. I should have been less definite in my assertions. Allow me to rephrase: A 16ga helm will probably provide protection adequate to the fighter's needs. Keep in mind, again, that headshots are illegal in Dagorhir, and moreover, a lot of th...

If he wears a 16ga helm, he will be fine. People have got concussions from Dag weapons, but virtually all of those (that I know of) were polearms, hitting by accident, with their unpadded haft portions, to the head of people not wearing helms or helmets or any kind of head protections. The vast majo...

I will post plenty more info here in case you are interested. There are many other ways to make weapons for Dagorhir, and I have made many of each kind.

One could convert a Scadian spear to a Dag spear (and back again) without too much trouble, by the way--might be a good way to go.

Maybe other people haven't had this problem, but I have a very hard time going up hills, most notably grassy ones, in my leather-soled Revival boots. A big advantage to period shoes is that they are very lightweight. This comes with a penalty in durability, of course, but it is nice that they are no...

You could well have someone walk in from one of the WMA schools and be pasting people here left right and center very nearly from day one. Now, I personally think that would only serve to make Scadian combat (of whatever form) better . What about you? I didn't get a strong sense one way or the othe...

I hate ugly shoes with an otherwise great harness.
Assuming I get my tax refund in a timely fashion, I may just splurge on a pair. Nothing like wearing stylish pants... THAT ARE MADE OF METAL.

The use of titles, saying "vivat," so on and so forth. I really don't think LARP is a BAD thing, so please no one construe my understanding of Society behavior as a LARP to be an insult. You consider that role playing? No wonder we have a disconnect. Yeah, I guess I'm just using a broader definitio...

Your kit is probably my favorite out of any of the 14th century kits that circulate around here. I hope to make my Scadian/Dagorhir kit look half as good as yours does.

I'm pretty darn sure that if you were LARPing and unleashed a string of profane and scatalogical insults at someone, it would not be received well.

But have you really never seen anyone act "in character" at a Scadian event? Because the court at 100 Minutes' War was EXTREMELY in-character.
