WTB: Wooden 'Heater' Shield

A long time ago on a BBS* far far away there was a post about a gent who has a father-in-law or uncle that builds boats and was offering to make insanely durable wooden shields out of a strong, yet lightish wood uses the skills he learned as a boat builder... Anyone know what the hell I am talking a...

Does anyone have good links for construction of turnshoes? Specifically I am looking to make reproduction of shoes used in early 1400 England.

Latin Motto's for 14th C England

I am interested in sources/resources for Latin motto's in use in 14th C England. Anyone out there have suggestions? I am toying with using (a quote by Virgil): "Data Fata Sectus" Which, as I understand it, translates to: "Following what Fate decrees" Any suggestions on something better or more appro...

How would you 'stap' a shield for SCAdian use?

I have a blank and am ready to get it battle ready, would you suggest SCA shield basket and strap or traditional (English late 14th/early 15th).

Also, what is the best method to determine stap placement?
