Re: Rough on Rattan
Depending on how heavily I tape my swords, and what kind of shape I am in, they would last maybe 1-4 practices/tournies. If I re-taped them I might get another practice or two out of them, but they were substandard at that point.

Re: Gruber knees for sale or trade
Sure either 3 of Cet's or Ironmonger's. Center point, mild steel would work for me. If you go with ironmonger, make sure he leaves them flat on the bottom and doesn't cut the faceplate out he does for his regular helmets.

Hi, I started this survey, but am not sure I can fairly complete it. I understand where I think many of the questions are headed, but without context, etc many of the answers are not appropriate. I have put my answers here with some discussion. I hope this helps your project out. St. G- (aka Alaric,...

Run of "flat top" helmets
Dave B and I are starting a run of "flat top helmets" They are going to fall in the $3-400 range depending on decoration, materials, etc. We will be able to accommodate some variation in size, top style, etc. This one is a bare bones prototype- will add more progress pics this weekend as we finish i...

Re: What sort of abilities would a "knife wrestler" have?
It is clear you have never been in a group fight, and have no idea about armor or tactics. This class is perhaps the stupidest class I have ever seen in any RPG, and I have been roleplaying since 1978. As a solo class, i.e. one fighter against another, then sure maybe they have a chance. Yes send th...

Re: What sort of abilities would a "knife wrestler" have?
This is strictly a roleplaying class. It would have little practical value. If I were the leader of a party, unless this class had some serious off the wall skills that would NEVER work in real life, I would never want one of these guys in my party. They are worse than a fire and forget missile. The...

Believing a Knife Wrestler wore substantial armor would make them much more believable than the totally unbelievable unarmored one.

Re: What sort of abilities would a "knife wrestler" have?
Jadebrain, Have you ever been hit in armor? Real armor works. It means you get to reduce damage significantly. You still get hit, and you don't get to just avoid it. However, knowing how your armor works, you can use it to deflect or take a hit. A thief, no matter how sneaky, would still have to get...

Re: What sort of abilities would a "knife wrestler" have?
I am going to be blunt. If you are working to try and make your game a simulation then your style is absurd and absolutely unworkable in real life. DnD 3 and 4 were clearly designed by people who have never been in even a "sport" fight. For that matter the 1 minute melee rounds of DnD 1 and 2, were ...

Alcy,
Really? I will have to look at the charts, I didn't know. I have no experience with 2024, and I trust you so I will take your word on it.70875 and 6061 T6 are plenty hard and springy enough for SCA combat though.

Re: I need help with shield types...I think..
How about this: Twice at every practice spend 5-10 minutes blocking just with your shield (maybe a few minutes just doing just defense too) Actually practice with your shield, and learn to use it in the same fashion that you would practice a forehand for tennis, or to get a tackle right in football....

Re: Thinking of heavy aluminum. Thoughts?
NO NO NO NO. Anything less than T-6 is going to be junk for a shield or cuisses. Absolutely do not do it. T6 6061 or 7075 has the same (better) tensile strength as stainless or pretty much spring. It will basically never dent, etc. it will work well for you, but has some limitations such as cracking...

How about this. Wear armor. Minimums exist so we can have a minimum, but people don't force you to wear next to nothing. You are going to get hit! Why wear minimum and then complain when you get hit?

Re: Stimulants in Fighting Competition
I found that when I was in much better shape, it was much easier for me to be successful in tournaments. I was able to fight at top level all the way through the tourney, and often succeed in the end, because I could "bring it at 100%" while others might have been tired. When I was working out and s...

What he said. You can do all the steroids in the world, it won't make you a better figther, more capable of throwing a ball or hitting one accurately, etc. It _WILL_ make you more muscular. Which means if you connect, you can potentially hit harder.. but that's why you should be wearing armor. You ...

Hey Gregoire,
We have a sanctioned set of rules for wrasslin'. The most important rule to keep in mind is this:
Anyone named Cellach or Cameron cannot participate.
If you have any other questions, I will be happy to help you out.
