It would be a great item for someone doing high end living history for the 12th & 13th centuries. Great condition, no rust. I think the price now would be about $1500.00. ...

Scabbard Pictures

Greg,
Here are the pictures of the baldric and the way the scabbard hangs. Hope this helps.

Also here are a couple of pictures from this past weekends time line in Camden, SC. This is myself and Tom Dunbar. Tom is doing Scottish infantry, late 13th century.

robert, from what I have seen from Viking digs it looks like that was not done, although one can not say never, because the very next dig may have a rawhide covered tree. but even alot of the American military saddles did not use rawhide, like the 1812 Dragoon, the Walker, 1833 Dragoon, the Ringgold...

Hey Peter, I saw that saddle the first time I went to Hastings in 2000, and thought it would be cool to reproduce. What wood did you use for the tree? I use beech and white oak in my early Viking and Norman trees, do you find something else works better?

snaebjorn, just a round headed rivet, about 2" long. I don't use any padding, if the tree is made correctly and you have a "good seat" thats all you need, all the padding in the world wont help if the tree is made wrong. The girth strap is 4" wide. Just do a search for the Gjermundbu find. Ill see i...

Robert, thank's for the comments. Ive only built saddle's from the tree up so I'm not sure what would be a good tree already made to use, although lot's of folk's use the 04 McClellan to start from. The bridle casting's are from my friend and Northan.
