I apologize, as i can't locate the picture at the moment.... but i know i have a closeup of a stone figure that clearly shows a set of maile chauces that are split at the inner ankle and laced closed. This would allow you to keep the appropriate silhouette, while also making them easier to apply an...

It isn't painted yet, it is just black from the forge :) It will be black over white when Daniel paints it. It's not concrete , but it's something. It's hard to see, but the guy on the bottom left has red icons painted on his helmet. http://www.historiabari.eu/Documenti%20antichi/Image/Secolo%20XII/...

Another LARP helm - round top nasal

The coolest thing about this helmet is that I was able to make it in about a day of work. It's just a round top with an integrated nasal that was scaled on the forge rather than finished, nothing special, but I really like its simplicity. A friend of mine decided he wanted to go to a LARP event with...

You wouldn't need to have made the hub any higher- just make the spokes longer.
I meant with the roof and walls as they are now :)

I wish it was my back yard! It's Dan's Mother's place, she let us use her woodworking shop to make the hardware and let us set it up there.

The spokes fit into sleeves sewn into the roof:

OK, question time! 1. How much did it cost in money? 2. How much did it cost in time (hrs)? 3. What plans did you use, if any? 4. How many do you expect for it to hold/sleep? 5. How much does it weigh? I LIKE it! With respect, -Aaron Money: Maybe $300 total Time: We didn't keep track, but sewing th...

LARP pavillion

Okay, take it easy on me. It was a rush job (4 weekends of work) and since it was the first thing we've done anywhere along these lines, there is plenty wrong with it. It is a start, and will hopefully do us until we are able to construct a better tent. It's hard to feel good about your kit if you'r...

Tongue-less belt buckles

I am genuinely curious - where does the widespread belief amongst LARPers (you too, SCAdians!) that medieval belts had buckles without tongues come from? If there's one glaringly modern thing that I see across basically every medievalish hobby I interact with, it's giant leather slabs with tongue-le...

Just as a thought, the force being enacted upon the ring is only unidirectional due to gravity. The force from the blow of an arrow or spear is dispersed more evenly upon the ring. Cool test, though. :) I spelled it out very clearly in my first post that this was in no way supposed to emulate any r...

That is pretty much what I'm going for. It'll be interesting to see what effects, if any, changing the ring's dimensions and styles will have on their strength.

Maille tests - Early Results

Howdy folks. I have been working on doing some tests on maille lately. No, I'm not stabbing it or hitting it with swords. Tests like that are mostly pointless because everyone will poke holes in the tests to discredit it when it says something they don't want it to say. So I'm taking a different app...
