Re: ISO longbow recommendations
I've got a Bear Montana, which while less period than other options (wood and fiberglass combo) shoots like a dream. You can often pick them up used for not too much.

Went once years ago, had fun, might go back again someday but I have other things I’d rather see and do first.

ISO Used Fencing equipment
Anybody got any used fencing gear sitting in a closet? Want that closet space back and some money to buy more stuff to fill it? Here is your opportunity ;) I'm looking to get some old fencing equipment so that I can become a self-motivated pell for my wife to practice on and maybe occasionally fence...

Re: separated sleeve arming coat
I sorta figured that would be the case, I was hoping I was wrong. Mainly I wanted to wear it because it would vent a little extra heat out of the armpits.

separated sleeve arming coat
So I'm trying to figure out a couple of things...
1. Are arming coats with separate sleeves period to the 14th century?
2. Where can I find documentation of them?
Any thoughts?

Re: Recalibrating
Yeah, I'm definitely spending some time calibrating in practice before I get on to the regular list field. The tassets thing is also useful, I might leave them off my kit as well.

I'm looking for more of a matte finish, do you have to heat the lampblack or does it go on cold?

Maille or Padding in Pic
http://www.themcs.org/armour/14th%20century%20armour.htm If you scroll down to the year 1351 on this list of effigies, you'll run into one of Hartrad von Shonecken......I'm struggling to figure out am I looking at a poor representation of a maille coif and shirt or am I looking at a padded and quilt...

I ran across this photo and noticed what appears to be guys wearing a cervelliere with besegews attached to the side of it, kind of giving a Princess Leia effect....anyone ever seen this? If so how common was it?

Add a breastplate and a decent gambesen and some knees and elbows and become a Swiss mercenary soldier? The poleaxe would fit into that.

Re: Recalibrating
I'm fortunate enough to have several guys around that would be willing to give me a hand with that. I'm only really worrying about torso front and sides with the breastplate. The jack chains on my arms and splinted legs should let through enough pop that I'll still feel it.

Recalibrating
So, I'm coming back after a long break and I'm moving from the 12th century to the 14th. I spent years fighting in lamellar or maile over a gambesen, now I'm going to have plate for the first time. I'm concerned about the calibration of plate. Do you experienced plate guys calibrate by feel or by so...
