Re: The Bavarian National Museum by Carlo Paggiarino
Wish I'd have known about that place when I was in Germany in the mud 90s. I did go to the museum in Nurnberg though. They had a very nice collection of arms and armour.

You should definitely video record those fights. As must as I enjoyed heavy, both participating and watching, I've yet really to see any vids of SCA rapier.

That pretty cool. My younger daughter likes it too. Do you have any other designs? We are looking to decorate out new house, built in 1887, and vintage looking stuff like this would set it off a bit.

Re: And he threw a rising flat snap into his opponent's
My first fight was a lesson in rules. I was fighting a guy I ended working with and really laying into him with a hammer. I was going for his head and then switching low and going for the leg. I'd connect low under his shield and he'd back off then re-engage. After three of these combos, asked what ...

I've seen that piece before, but not from those angles. I have also seen the back and it's "stapled".

Garbage, pure unadulterated garbage. I'll be happy to destroy it personally, when I die in 40+ years. :D Seriously, that armour is ridiculously awesome. I'm doing good when I can find time to wind 1/4" mail rings and manage to rivet them without splitting them. I thought Arminius' helm was the pinna...

I'm quite sure no one gives Nissan any flack when he shows up in that red Japanese kit of his. One look at that mempo of his and you know he is there to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and he's all out of bubblegum.

Re: Easier way for beginners to flatten rings for rivited ma
I have a piston and bushing that I use. It wont work with galvanized wire, so you have to strip the zinc, but the way I do it leaves the rings a pearl black after flattening, so win-win. With 17g wire, I only need maybe 2 strokes to flatten using a 2.5 lbs shop hammer.

Re: Timid fighters..
I found it helpful to stop thinking much. Any thinking I was doing was trying to find openings in my opponents defense and reacting to his offense.
As has been said, the best way to become less timid in a fight is fight more. The more you get hit, the less it will bother you.

I've found with lower back specifically and the rest of the back over all, that back exercises are essential. A lot of people beef up that core and then forget the back, which will cause pain.

Re: Lamellar-vikings-normans real or invented for sca?
You guys do realize that we here at the AA are responsible for Birka lamellar being so prevalent in the SCA, right? I was part of the very first order of Birka plates and if I recall correctly, we had around 30 people on that order with several hundred plates per order. I myself had 600 and I know t...

Maciejowski buckets aren't any worse than a Pembroke helm, which used to be pretty popular, or any other flat top helmet.

I think the dimple in your die might be too wide. I have a set of piercing tongs and haven't had any rings that have a dimple that big and I feel that the dimple on my die is too big.

As far as jigsaws go, the trick is to go slow, cut in small managable sections, lubrication and keep fresh blades handy. I used a jigsaw to cut out 12g sections for a Maciejowski helmet, from a water heater tank. It wasn't too bad as long as I didnt try to go too fast. I used a candle as lube. When ...
