It's a wonderful hat, it's cool at those hot events, as it breathes extremely well, I put a good design for a strap in it that locks it in tight so it doesn't move at all, the brim is great on bright sunny days and keeps your face dry on wet rainy days. It's really a spectacular helm. I love it, but...

Here's my picks. This is assuming that the pickes are done by OP on the double elim format in the MOL handbook for Atlantia. NOTE: This does not include challenge-in's due to the fact that you don't know who they're going to challenge. Quarter Finals: Duke Logan Lord Ragnar Sir Colin Sir Corby Lord ...

Thx Talun. As of right now this is all up in the air and simply looking at some issues that seem to be surfacing. There's several reasons why I want to keep the kettle, and several reasons why I want to go to a more fitted, tighter helm (head movement, ducking shots, less mass, etc), namely a bascin...

Researching Bascinets

Who are some good makers of bascinet helms? I'm looking for fixed or removable bar grill, with or without aventail (will want one at some point). I'd like it to be a nice fit, not some big 3 size fits all version. Doesn't have to be custom, long as it fits good. Stainless, 12-14ga. Just looking at t...

I've gotten some questions about the OP, and just to clarify, I pulled that information straight off of http://op.atlantia.sca.org/atlantian_op.php.

I've looked at everyone's awards and dates, and everything looks correct.

I believe in atlantia the winter reign is 7 months and the summer reign is 5... not that that has any bearing on this conversation. That makes crown winners prince and princess for 6 and 4 months respectively. I think the list is going to be posted some time this week if little birdies can be truste...

I've been in a few full out charges that hit pretty hard. And I've been on the bottom of the pile in a bridge battles after the initial charge. At my size, (5'10 200lb little guy) I'd much rather be in a full out charge, than at the bottom of one of those piles. I probably shouldn't say that, someon...

Either way, kettle helms rule! 8) I've never had a problem with shots twisting my head and such. A hard spear to the face coming up from below is probably the worst that could happen. It tends to catch the brim and roll your head back more so than a "smooth" helm where the weapon would slide off at ...

I've worn a kettle helm for almost a year and a half now. I love it. It breathes, no water on the face in a rain storm, few problems with sun. It does however effect you against taller people in that your lack of upward visibility can be used against you in close. As for shots to the brim, if it's a...

What is the exact date that this rule goes in to effect? For some reason I had Dec. 10th in my head after reading the Acorn, but was told last night it was the first. The 10th does sound like an odd date to set, but I could have sworn that's what I read.

Re: CLeats

All i can say is i hope someone never steps on m y moccasins with cleats. Seems a bit of a safety hazard in war to me. The heel of a combat boot to the toe can hurt just as much as a spike on a soccer cleat. You probably have just as much chance of your foot getting hurt via a heavy hard boot as yo...

I recently switched from boots to cleats, and I love it. I CAN move quicker, as I can plant and turn, and run more freely than with boots. You know, I've kind of seen that in the past during Kings Assessment events, saw it at a melee we had a few years back at Tourney of Chiv with unbelts v. belts, etc. My thought is that to be an effective unit, you should probably have a core group of guys that train together as a unit. Since I live in the same barony as you (Columbia), figured I'd point you in the right direction to your local herald, who also happens to be the baronial herald. You can find her contact info on

Her email is herald@nottinghillcoill.org.
