People have used many ways to hold the crest on. Some use magnets (but I find it slides around) some drill a hole in the very top of the helm, anchor a block of wood on the inside of the crest and bolt it onto the helm from the inside. Its to allow you to go through the motions with an off weight so that you can build muscle at the same time without being horribly weighted. Im not sure why the pommel is so important to you, but hey, to each their own.

They weigh about a lb without the weight
The cores are made out of durable steel
