Re: Press forming basics
Yeah hal is right. The way the valve works, when you open a port, it will engage the check valve. The check valve will keep the return closed till it reaches its set psi (in this case 2000) once it reaches that psi it will reopen the return. The valve is spring centered so it will return to center o...

Re: How would you fix this helm?
Seeing as how the other fixes would take a total rework. I would cut a slice out of the brow and re-weld it. It might not open as wide, but other then that I don't see where it would go wrong. It's getting replaced so its moot, still it's fun to rework it in your mind.

Re: Press forming basics
The reason I said that about the cast iron is a lot of my stuff is made out of cast iron. The pump housing is made out of cast iron, the control valve is all cast iron, even the jack is 2 blocks of cast iron held together with tie rods. Still freak stuff can happen, people should always have their s...

Once more 100% my fault.
That was very informative, thank you. I can see now why their guards are not safe. Hopefully someone from the show will see this and get them reworked/remade to be more safe.

Re: On CBS Sunday Morning NOW!
Sorry I didnt mean you Mac, I wrote that out poorly thats my fault. It was directed at comments like I don't really see any appeal to Knights of Mayhem except for the train wreck that the lowest common denominator of human type will tune in hoping to see. Very, very sorry Mac. Still I would like to ...

They are also very good for forging and making pattern welded steel too. http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/3812/h16s2.jpg Also cast iron wont explode, don't be silly. It just doesnt hold up very well and likes to crack. Its just like bender...

Re: On CBS Sunday Morning NOW!
I wouldn't bash the K of M guys based on a show, because its a show and its not real and they have to sell it. I know a few people that have done acting for "reality" shows here in Miami. Its funny how most of the stuff on true tv is a lie. That being said, they have a lot of room for improvement fr...

Re: Critique my helm
Bender I have a direct drive double acting hydraulic system that's probably 5x faster then your air over system. That being said I could make the same thing you could make but even faster. You know what, its not worth it. One day I was welding up a helmet going over the numbers in my head and I coul...

Out of curiosity, what is the purpose and advantage of having a "typology"? While Oakeshott did it with swords, I still have yet to understand the purpose of typologies, other than to give us, in hindsight as modern people, a way to discuss certain forms; pigeonholing and classifying things, when t...

Ok how this works is on one end things are getting oxidized and on the other they are getting reduced. The Na and Cl ion will not react. So it will not change the ph of your solution. (If you are trying to etch Fe) When your Fe is reduced to an Fe^3+ ion you get Fe(H2O)6^3+(aq)<=>Fe(H2O05(OH)2+(aq)+...

If you are having trouble getting thick brass hot enough using a propane torch, you can put a piece of wood behind it. This reflects the heat from the torch back towards the brass and makes it heat up much quicker. The wood will catch on fire, so make sure you only do this in a fire-safe environmen...

apply a 1:100 solution of Sodium hypochlorinate (household bleach) mixed with water. That concentration is VERY mild and I think that water itself is probably as caustic to steel as that is.
