Killings in southern rural Norway, 1300-1569

Three dual systems estimates are employed to study the number of killings in southern rural Norway in a period of slightly over 250 years. The first system is a set of five letters sent to each killer as part of the legal process. The second system is the mention of killings from all other contempo...

Where's the suspensory lacing I'm pretty sure I don't understand the question. Could you elaborate? I wouldn't normally do this in a clas...

Browning in late 16th early 17th century armor

I've been browsing late period armor when I noticed some suits that appear "browned". For example here http://www.flickriver.com/places/United+States/Massachusetts/Worcester/North+Lincoln+Street/ and here http://www.flickr.com/photos/thoog/6020328142/in/set-72157601113378177 Is this a form of russet...

I picked up the same anachronism of 'economy' that K did. While the word was just coming into existence in the 16th C, it's original use was more in the sense of 'household budgets.' Quoting: The sense of "wealth and resources of a country" (short for political economy) is from 1650s. http://www.ety...

Skeletons tell tales: Stirling Castle 1296 - 1342

Some of the most horrific war-related injuries ever found, have been identified by scientists studying medieval warriors killed in Scotland’s wars of independence. According to a new study of skeletons found at Stirling Castle, one individual died after suffering 100 fractures. Others had between s...

I note two things of interest to me: 1. They repeatedly hit each other with steel weapons without apparent injury. 2. In all honesty, does most of the grumpiness come from the fact that most Combat Archers tend to yield instead of pulling another weapon and taking it to the man? Honestly curious. Grumpiness occurs because CA is a distance weapon which allows someone to be taken out of the fight before he even has ...

I am interested, but if it was too big for your previous customer, it is probably too big for me. Is the 'circumference' measured on the outside of the helmet? Thanks Bob.

In relation to my question, I take it you are suggesting that there were more full mail shirts worn than arming cotes with voids and skirts?

But if one were to wear the skirt, which is more common - strapped independent of the cote or attached to the cote?

Instead of voiders, you might also opt for a super short haubergon. See this thread on MyArmoury . Oh great!. Now I have visions of Bob, a rusty razor, and belly button piercings. If you take a standard haubergon and cut it up, you'll have enough material left over to make a skirt and a f...

Late 15th C: Mail as Underamour (Gussets?)

Is the use of mail on this garment correct for wear under armour of the late 15th century? Is the use of a full mail haubergeon also correct? Is the use of mail under armor mostly abandoned by the early 16thC? If not then, when? Thanks http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB2/files/mail_from_andre_bas...
