Mac,
I would like to make sure it is ok with you to post the videos of the demos you did. I am still trying to put some of them together and hope to get them up on youtube as long as you dont mind them being up there for the public.

Re: Armour workshop - So. Cal. Now with Surprise guest Armou
We also discussed how to heat treat 1050 and things to watch out for on warpage, as well as tempering. Chris demonstrated what happens to 1050 if you quench it without tempering and it shatters like glass. Then he tempered a peice and it was like a spring. Mac also suggested that if you have a numbe...

Re: Armour workshop - So. Cal. Now with Surprise guest Armou
My son and i will be there around noon. I am interested in finding out about heat treating 1050 as I have a sheet and am starting on some wisby(ish) style gauntlets that I would like to try heat treating. I also have some questions about getting articulation to work right as I have never quite gotte...

The gauntlets look good. There are a couple of spots that could have been adjusted slightly different, but that is because my hands were not available for fitting (only a tracing and measurements). They seem to work good, although I will have to get used to buckling them while they are on. I have st...

Guillaume, did you receive your gauntlets? I am in a similar situation. The last email I received was a month and a half ago and was having some problems with bouncing. If anyone can get in contact with Morgan please PM me so I can pass along my cell number so he can get a hold of me. Thanks, William

I have used 1/8 inch stainless on the helms for my boys and they have worked great. They are about the same thickness as hockey helmet face cages.

I kept mine overlapping as I did not want the edges to be able to flex inward at my spine. The only time it would really matter is if I were to fall over backwards on to some thing or someone during a war battle. If I were to have made it a one piece back then I would have put some leather on the in...

You guys like your HF shears? I am currently without shears and want to get some, but also am a full time student. HF seems alright, but I am nervous as every time I read about them on here they are called the cheapo-stuff. Do they work? is the $80 worth it, or should I save for a beverly? Sorry to...

I have a table outside that I clamp my shear to using a C-clamp. I usually clamp it on the front right corner and have a trashcan at the edge of the table so that the scrap pieces of metal fall right into the trash can. It takes about a minute to bring it out and clamp it and about the same to uncla...

This formula was given to me by Harmony: ft/min = (blade dia. X 3.14 X RPM) /12 example: 1 1/4" blade, 1400 rpm (1.5 X 3.14 X 1400) / 12= 550 ft/min sound right? this IS for a drill press mounted slotting blade though... That sounds right, and it doesn't matter what powers it. The calculation is fo...

My cutter works great. The bigest thing to think about is how fast the blade is spinning. Mine spins between 200 and 300 rpm. If the saw blade moves to fast you risk breaking teeth and over heating the blade. You could make one for very little out of pocket if your moter will go slow enough. you cou...

If I understand correctly, the ironmonger dishes are modified tank bottoms. I have one of the small forms and it is not a tank bottom. They are cast from ductile iron. It needed some smoothing when I received it and after about 10 minutes with a flap wheel an an angle grinder it was ready to go. Th...

My new Grizzly knife belt sander / buffer arrived this week. I got to try it out last night and I love it. It will be used for general grinding and polishing of armor, so the 1 hp motor should work fine for me. William http://home.armourarchive.org/members/wdegrey/pics/beltgrinder.JPG

One thing that bothers me a little about this is that you only get the three sizes of bits. If you're punching holes through helmets there's probably no problem, but at least with the small punch they gave you 7 sizes to chose from. Using the order from printed catalog, will show a pic of the punch...
