Im not of the society there were to many things I was not happy with when i tried it out, and so I found the game I wanted to play elsewhere. Here are the things that turned me away from the sca and in search of a game that had what i wanted to play. Unarmoured combat with Armor: To me the SCA fight...

I had the grace and fortune of meeting Baldur at Ragnaroc 04, and was sorely disapointed he could not make 05. He is indeed a fine example of chivalry, and a skilled fighter. My favorite memory of the Castle siege at ragnaroc is Baldur being hoisted over the walls, his sword in his gut belt over his...

I have been enthralled by bicolline for years, if i lived closer i would so be a part of their organization. In my research of their group and talking with some very fine members i have aquired a pretty decent english translation of their rules. Bicolline is divided into guilds and two major kingdom...

Im confused, I was under the impression the SCA wore armor like football players where pads. For safety not actual protective value in combat. It also seems to me against a steel helm, a thrust would have more killing potential then a slash. Also i heve heard its Assumed all players are in hauberks ...

One of my favorite moment from the siege battle was when 2 Avelocs assaulting forces were killed by their own siege equipment. The crew laughed it up and put two more hashmarks down on their kill lists. Also the ring of fire is just amazing. I have never had so much fun and want to thank Aveloc for ...

Hey Wyrm, my group has used shinais for the last 6 years or so. We are transitioning to something else however we dont use raw shinais. We add pvc hilts with weights in them to get a more realistic feel, and also put a bit of fom on the end for stabing since our combat ranges from no armor to full a...

I was going to suggest a guard that has already been mentioned, though it was refered to as the "jedi trick" This technique is called guard of the woman because the person using it would be looking at their oponent over their shoulder like a woman. However the idea is to drop your sword over your sh...

M'lord Alaric. I am familiar with how the SCA works, I was simply comenting on if Arrows were to work the way a previous poster suggested then should not other weapons. I saught a system that was more telling of true medieval warfare (the capturing etc etc.) but respect and enjoy SCA and its members...

M'lord Alaric. In a tournament situation i see nothing wrong with your response in explanation of SCA's mindset for the sword against armor. However in a melee situation, agreed a blow can be delivered that stuns a fighter and could leave him exposed, however consecutive sword slash, will still not ...

Gorm, a good idea, but then also, A sword blow to someone in full plate will in no way slice through the plate armor, and unlikely damage any flesh beneath. A sword thrust is even unlikely to pierce effectivley through plate. A sword slash against chain is unlikely to cut through, though somewhat po...

Hey grendel, I started up a group in Washington State about 2 years ago now. We were unsatisfied with what the SCA had to offer (no disrespect, love hanging out at sca events, just not my thing for combat). On the other hand, i really didnt want to swing fun noodle at people in groups like amtgard o...

Another group that uses wooden weapons is Athair. Primary sword type is a modified shinai. Cross pieces are added and weight is increased to be in the realm of 2-3lbs. Balance is created to make an accurate feeling weapon. Some swords are boffer style with wooden or metal cores. Armour requirments a...

Hey everyone, RAGNAROC WAS GREAT! Im one of the Shinai fighters previously mentioned on the string. It was nice to go to an SCAesc event and not have alot of the SCA crap flung around. Thanks alot for letting us participate in the ring of fire, very fun. It was a great experiance getting to fight pe...
