Re: Understanding period manuals

But here is my problem. I look at many of the techniques in that video and think "That would be really stupid thing to try" There are several techniques that *only* have a chance because the 'opponent' is standing there and watching as the 'attacker' takes forever to do anything. I mean who thought ...

Understanding period manuals

Okay, I admit. I have very little historical knowledge. Recently I have looked into some period manuals for various reasons, and they just don't 'make sense' to me. Here is a video that seems to do a decent job of depicting the staff techniques from Joachim Meyer's manual. https://www.youtube.com/wa...

Well of course. That is like saying "Fighting with a spear makes you easy Prey" Assuming you have no idea how to fight with a spear. If you are used to using a shield, there is very little learning curve to using a larger one. I really can't see someone going from a 36" heater to a 42" heater and do...

The lightweight one is much better than 'a tunic'. It has 3 (or is it 4) layers of fairly stout cotton fabric. It is enough to cushion me from my armor, and to help when I get hit.

I spent many years wearing a tunic under my armor, this is much better.
