Re: Society flail experiment??

Laurie Wise wrote:All I can say on this subject is Kirby used one in the early 70s in Calafia. It was very effective.. The opposite fighters couldn't defend very well against it because the flail went over and around the shield.
And was nobody hurt in the process?

SCA Merchants Row

Greetings good gentles.

The website hosting the SCA Merchants Row has been long since closed, but I was wondering if the Merchants Row ever found a new home.

Does anyone know of a new website address for this, or any other collection of various and sundry SCA vendors?

I think I'm sorta looking for a command.

ie - (we must all) Survive and Defend
or perhaps - (we must) Survive (so that we will be able to) Defend

hope that makes sense.

Latin Help Requested...

Would some worthy gentle be so good as to provide me with the Latin form of the phrase "Survive and Defend". Any assistance in this matter would be most heartily appreciated.

I personally would not care to fight with a cross hilted sword. Gauntlets that provide adequate hand mobility, while very period, are not adequate protection for a full contact sport. That may be, but from what I've read on this Archive, there is currently more and more of a move in the SCA towards...

Ever thought of getting this same material as thick-wall extruded pipe? By playing with wall thickness you can work with relative density which might give you better balance and performance but not need to add bars even to the small percentage that would require it... and if you're going to do that...

Too heavy and off-balance compared to real swords. I DO think they make excellent trainers for pells and for training new fighters how to swing a sword, as they require good body mechanics to get them to move. But they are not an improvement over rattan. I can get rattan to balance out better as ra...

My concern with a material like polypropylene, is that you could manufacture something in the same shape as the polypropylene out of nylon either through ignorance or malice, and have a seriously devastating weapon out there (imagine in a me...

I'll admit that helms like the above are rare, mostly because of the predominance of 14th cent bascinets with bar-grills but they do exist. If I had just paid MattB to build a helm like this: http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=127372 and someone told me I had to add a central ba...

If these weapons were otherwise approved, it would be a simple matter to require that they have thrusting tips added and that the thrusting tips keep the current 1.25" standard. If this were done, I don't think many helms would have to be modified. Thrusting aside, no helm that I have ever seen in c...

Greetings good gentles,

There has been posted to this archive, at sometime past, a link to a video of an archiver performing cartwheels in full plate.

Would some worthy soul be so kind as to re-post that link? Any assistance in this matter would be right heartily appreciated.

Made for rebated steel combat. 15mm plyboard, a layer of hessian soaked in glue, with more hessian around the edges and canvas on the front. Painted with bathroom emulsion paint and acryllic.
