Re: Laminated Rattan vs Split Rattan polearm

What are acceptable methods of laminating rattan besides copious amounts of strapping and duct tape?

My two cents on the viability of reconstructing an accurate SCA legal Mongol suit of armor. Not difficult, but technically impossible. We can do things that get us close, but the last time I checked I have never seen any extant Mongol knee armor. I have never seen and extant Mongol arm armor. I hav...

My impression based on the period artifacts and period art I've seen is that the Mongolians and Chinese who are doing Mongol reenactment are not realy all that accurate. It's hard to put together an accurate and SCA legal Mongol kit... Right now, I have to be happy that my kit (when I war my tabbar...

I like my firefighter extrication gloves... The textured grips help prevent slips and there is reinforcement and padding in areas which add to the durability and protection afforded by the gauntlets.

Sword fittings

Does any one have any pictures and/or reviews of By My Hand's sword fittings where the hilt and pommel are one piece and one carves down a piece of rattan to fit into the handle? Their website is down at the moment...

Also curious if any one else makes similar items....

really wasn't planning on fighting or even attempting to armor up until I'm %100 or as close as I'll ever get to where I was. That, of course is a completely different story, and very reasonable. There is no reason why you could not continue at that point, just make sure to exercise caution like so...

Re: Fighting with a Pneumothorax

If your friend has an active pnemothorax the only place that he should be is at the hospital. If your friend has a history of them then he may want to consider a lower impact sport than heavy weapons fighting. Strength/endurance training are great ideas. Getting hit in the chest with a stick isn't.
