I've not bought from him yet but I've seen his wares and everyone that I talked to really likes his stuff.

Re: Birch Viking Shields
Hey Kaz, just as a suggestion, I put a strip of 10-16 oz leather (depending on what I have on hand) on the edge of the plywood before I sew down the rawhide. It acts as a bumper between the rawhide and the wood. I also saddle stitch the rawhide on. I've been building them that way for years and it h...

I picked up a simple, hardened leather, shoulder cop from Torvaldr several years back and I've been very happy with it. http://torvaldr.info/index.htm Works great under a tunic, is light-weight and definitely offers more protection than going without. White Mountain also something similar in stainle...

Well then, in that case, if the documentation merely mentions "stab stitching", then add your flair and do what you want. God knows there are enough examples of personal flourish in medieval handwares to justify your using a particular type of stab stitching that you favour! When questioned by any j...

Ah, sorry 'bout that. Other than the stab stitching that Else Østergård mentions that "can be seen at pocket slits and along necklines", I guess I'm still a little confused about what you're looking for. That's what I get for being linguistics and research Laurel! :? I suppose one could always con...

It's not my area but I since my wife is also constructing a Herjolfsnes gown, here's a site or two she used to get some bibliographic info from. http://rosaliegilbert.com/glossary.html (relative to the "fitchets" or pocket slits) Dame Helen's site and info: http://www.damehelen.com/sewing/index.html...

A Review... A Review!!!
Sorry, my bad... The blue gambeson that Lyneya sent was every bit as good as raved over by others on this thread. The construction is top-notch and the garment quite comfortable right out of the box. Although the original had cloth-covered buttons, Lyneya has used flat metal buttons that "shouldn't"...

Re: Torvaldr Update and armor orders
Thanks Torvaldr...they arrived in good order and look, as always, great. Don't know when I'm going to put together my next kit and use them, but at least I have them on hand!Torvaldr wrote: Orders that shipped on last Tuesday
