If the Detroit I of A belongs to the City, you might better hurry... just sayin'. Okay, I am going from nothing here - just that there is some surprise that the date of the armor so carefully depicted is from... what, a hundred years or more before the claimed death. Perhaps I am too cynical, but h...

Re: SCA PSA: Screw tabards; use a surcoat!

Never wore a tabbard never will. I had my surcoat built before I finished my armour. And now after all these years of fighting and repairing it, it's time to make a new one out of wool and lined with linen.

For the gauntlets I recommend these. I have a set of them in brown leather and they look like a pair of gloves. Protection is great as well. http://ageofcraft.com/eng/briga.html Edward Edward....do the lames connect down to the haft with these? How much of a shock do you get with strikes to the han...

Thus we speculate, Herr Walter not being in any condition for us to walk up to him and lift his hem for a peek... Yeah...I don't know anyone who can speak with the dead...But I think you may be onto something. A long padded coif under the helm with a suspension liner maybe... Does make me wonder no...

Re: Knights Hospitaller Surcoat?

Prior to 1286 yes there was a separation between the two. This first started about 1260(prior to that they all wore black with white cross) After the 1286(ish) date they all wore the red/white combo on the field and the back in their civies...The drawing previous shown is a good likeness of their su...

Re: Knights Hospitaller Surcoat?

For the 14th C era the surcoat would have been red/white for all members of the military side of things. Prior to(and I would have to re-look the exact year)1286 only the actual Knights would have worn those colors with the rest wearing the regular Black with a cross on chest. The cloaks and out of ...
