i have been experimenting with lost foam a bit
the key is to dump the molten metal in as fast as you can
or the sand will collapse
next trick i am going to try is put a thin coat of plaster on the foam to bring out detail

you can do armouring without a forge alot of people do
Using a forge the metal moves alot easier and you can use a lighter hammer
and it cuts down on the vibration

I use lump charcoal almost all the time
no clinkers at all
I do have alittle trouble getting welding tempature
If corn cokes up like coal maybe I will be able to get to those temps
