Simple green the wonder cleaner.. This. I used a huge jug of the stuff, and dried it as fast as I could, but rust just can't be prevented if you're soaking it in a mop bucket like I was. A stiff wire brush, constant wear (sacrificing an old coat to rub off the rust with), and shaking it inside of a...

How fast did armor go out of style?

As I have been trying to assemble a 15th-16th century kit, I have wondered; Just how fast did one type of armor go out of style, or become obsolete? For instance, say you are a novice man at arms, ready to join his first campaign. Your family before you were pretty successful, and assembled a decent...

Drat. Oh well... would dabbing the majority of the oil off with paper towels leave enough to protect the steel? Or do you really need to have it dripping to be an effective defense?

Removing oil from maille?

I couldn't find a previous topic about this, but if I missed one please forgive me. Isn't it true that a lot of maille was alternating solid (stamped, punched, or welded rings) and riveted rings? If so, where can I find a piece like that? I have noticed that Forth Armoury seems to have died. Everything is out of stock, and there doesn't seem to be any updates last I checked.
