Re: Sallet patterning

Thanks for the links! I've seen them but the Angel fire one is new to me :-) This is my 8th helmet, and second sallet, so its not new to me ;-) I just have been away from the archive for a few years. The pattern on the archive is a start point, but I'm wanting to get a lot more of the flowing curves...

Re: Disguising aluminum

Birch wood Casey aluminum black works well and is available at many outdoors/gun shops. I've had best luck applying and rubbing it in with a scotchbrite pad

Sallet patterning

I am starting a new 1050 sallet soon, and an curious to everyone's thoughts and suggestions of patterning. 2 piece? (What I'm planning). 3 or 4 piece? I'm keeping close to shape of the Sigismund of Tyrol harness.

Ive gotten batches as small as two pieces 24x48" pack and shipped ups to wyoming for 22.00 packing and 35.00ish for shipping. Not too bad for such a small order I thought.

I only have two of the large pairs of al clams in stock (size lg/xlg glove) and the stainless clams and finger gaunts pictured.

I am no longer taking orders since I am no longer armouring full time and need to get current orders caught up and taken care of.

14th century pimp!

Just finished this pair up!

The brasswork was some great practice for some other work I'm working on too :)

18 ga mild, heat blued, brass chasing.

Had the Doors song "20th century fox " going through my head except "14th century Pimp"!

I know, to much information.......

how likely are the arms to break? is it a matter of "IF" or "WHEN"? I did the out of 1/2" plate, so I thought they were pretty soild.

Deffinately a concern though.

I figured the pneumatic ones would take a massive compressor, that I dont have, so I went with a mechanical hammer. I used a 3/4 hp motor, 115 volt, 12 amps. 10 hp air compressor 240 or 480 at how many amps??????????? I like a low power bill myself, and it barely pulls more than my pedistal grinders...
