Not too particular on the size, medium would be fine.

Socketed preferred.

Fairly authenic, not like Bud K

Re: Chemically Darking Aluminum

I "blackened" my son's aluim helm for youth combat. I got it from Bass Pro Shop. I turned out well, but kinda left a powdery finish, but oiled down it looks fine.

Re: Gleann Abhann fall crown list.

The bottom half is quite strong. There could be many dark horses to watch out for. No easy wins in this list.

The description on Illusion Armory mentions 16g for the chin, you said there was no 16 gauge used. Did you have this special made? I'm just trying to fond out if it would be legal in this kingdom.

Thanks

Here is my shoes based on my interpretation of the ones found in the Sutton Hoo Ship Burial. All period correct tools used, hand stitched and home made walnut dye were all used.

Re: Making some turn shoes.

The first image is close except you want the sole to be on the very edge of the steel. that way the only part of the shoe that connects with the hammer and the steel is the sole.

The second image would damage the uppers.

The third would be the right way to use the wood.

Re: Making some turn shoes.

Basically the result is the sole edge gets turned up a bit to increase stitch protection and weather and provide more comfort. I have a shoe anvil like that, I picked it up for $10. You can use that or as I've done use a rounded piece of wood, like a 2x4 and simply hold it in place. It doesn't take ...

Re: Making some turn shoes.

Nice job with the shoes there. :D Another tip is to wet the leather of the sole on the outside where it meets with the upper leather. Then take a maul or something and strike the sole on the outside, this will cause the leathers to meet and form a tighter seam. I cant tell from the pics if you did t...

I'd HIGHLY recommend this site. From looking at the horse wraps the cost would be just a bit more for real good ones, then you could wear them with hard and soft kits - mix'em up. Just a thought.
