Re: A Paunchy Man's Doublet

I have no idea whether you’re still on this board, but I was really impressed by the patterning you did on this - literally I showed it to my spouse-of-similar-physique several times as I read it as it gave me some ideas for next time I make him garb (it’s been a while.) I don’t suppose it was ever ...

Re: Tips to Surviving a Landed Baronage

I recommend that you have a Vision for what you want to do with your term of service. That will give you a direction to take the group - people will either join your direction or not, but it will make you appear to all as more of a leader and less of a figure head. Inspiration is your main job, wit...

Yes, the St. Michael's Company - I was lucky enough to attend the 2009 Pas, but wasn't able to make it to the 2010 one. Thus I was sort of hoping there was another one this year... :)

And of course now that I posted this the schedule is up... figures...

Pennsic Pas d'Armes?

Hi! I'm starting to put together my must-be-at schedule for Pennsic this year, and while I know about the Thirty and the WoH Tourney, of course, I was wondering whether there were any other nifty Pas or other things-not-to-miss for a 14th century Mafia type scheduled this year. Since the battlefield...

Red belts are fabulous...

Y'know, I just wore for the first time a belt that I had woven for me and then added plaques to - it's tablet woven *scarlet* silk. No one said a word, other than complementing me on it. 'Course, it helps that everyone at that event knows me / knows I'm not a squire / etc. Still, it's period, and go...

Re: Is anywhere else in the SCA as weird as the West Kingdom

In Atlantia, the soles of your shoes are at your discretion but aany glaringly modern footgear must be disguised. Actually, tennis shoes would be disallowd both for appearance and fragility. "Tennies" are not very substantial. Hrm, medieval shoes (of the commonly available varieties, ie Revival, et...

I contacted Countess Svava (sp?) who ran it in previous years, due to some mundane issues (new job!) she wasn't able to do so this year but hopes to do so in the future.

Pennsic question - Ladies of the Rose Tourney

Greetings!

I just noticed the Battlefield schedule for War is up - http://www.pennsicwar.org/penn37/MARTIA ... sched.html - and was wondering whether the Ladies of the Rose tourney was happening this year? That's always such a fun one to watch...

I don't have a *Panther*, but I do have a spoke round and love it - my husband can set it up by himself in under an hour, for a round it has lots of space (let's face it, they aren't as "efficient" as squares, but they look SO much better).

Just how "elevated" do you mean? I mean, you can go up to 16?17? feet without any sort of approval... that'd give you room for, say, a 6-7 foot high platform plus a roof over it...

I was about to ask about that one (A Distant Mirror). It's certainly an engaging read, but there were enough details in it that I noted as being flawed, that I wasn't sure what that said about the rest of the book. And not having the expertise to evaluate the rest, I didn't want to recommend it.

The other thing to consider, check the rules in your kingdom. Girard was wanting to make one of these for the recent pas, and checked into this. The trick is that if it's a "sword", even if you carve it to look like the example, it only gets to have 2 edges. If it's a mace, and padded, you get to ha...
