Windrose Armory SCA Norman fighting Helmet
For sale is a brand new Norman helmet for SCA combat from Windrose Armory. It is a very nice helmet, just a bit too big for me. The helmet has about a 29" outside circumfrence around the edge of the conical portion of the helmet. It is Windrose Armorys standard gauges with a steel nasal. $250 + $20 ...

OT: It comes from "Far be it from me to tell you that [insert something unflattering about the addressee's kit here]". Actually, I have recently heard a far more believable version of it's origin: that it came from the German "farbe", which means "color"; e.g. a person who's kit is rather inaccurat...

I know of no historical armour that is painted, that has been ground and polished. Every example I know of, from the simplest black sallet to more elaboately painted closed sallets/suits, has been left from the hammer - presumably to leave some sort of a tooth for the paint to adhere to. That I bel...

It was fun
Well what a fun time. Thanks to all who showed up - especially all that made such long drives. Thanks to Halvgrim for all his travel and getting folks trained. Special thanks to Jesse and Wendy for making it all happen and all the work that goes on that no one ever sees. Wendy sent these pictures ou...

Jesse, No appropriate tents for these fellows. I have a 13th century one ... but of course that won't do much good. One of the guys has a starfire blunt. I have my blunt and spear and that is about it. I have an extra spangenhelm and maille shirt I was going to loan out to any of the SCA guys who sh...

Directions
Halv,
I was a bit hazy on the return trip as well ... That is the route I took and seems to be the most direct. I would go with that.
Looking forward to the event. Maybe we can all sit down and talk a bit about the Hasting's reenactment as well.

Andy/Wulfric

Shield
Murdock,
I would not use U channel for a live steel/living history shield. These shields are relatively short lived and using U channel will not help much - as well as the obvious authenticity factor. I would use the leather and or rawhide. What trouble did you have wth the rawhide?

While I certainly can't offer any proof that it was done, the point raised by the first picture - mail doesn't naturally hang over your leg in a protective manner when on horseback - is a legitimate seeming point, with a fairly plausible solution being to tie the mail to the leg. Gavin, Not to bela...

Very nice
Peter,
Very nicely done. It's coming along very nicely. For the cantle/rear bow how did you curve it? Is it laminated or did you steam bend it? Just curious as that seems to be one of the difficult aspects of it.
Best wishes,
Wulfric/Andy

Siloflex is not being banned
I talked to the SEM, Robert Glendon of Auk, at the last Meridian Coronation (mere weeks ago) and he stated that siloflex was not being banned. This has been repeated to me from various others who have talked to Robert. As to the Pas/counted blows/etc, I cannot speak to this. I know Robert was trying...

Well at 19.3 hands that actually makes him taller than the tallest horse in the Guinness Book of world records. I think they list Goliath as the tallest living horse at 19.1 hands. You have him beat by .2 hands!

Maille Shirt
Thanks for the link! I ran the site through Babelfish to try to get an English translation. I guess the shirt was found in the 1960's, stored and forgotten about till recently? Is this the same shirt that is sometimes mentioned that was found rolled up at the site of a battlefield?
Thanks,
