Years ago I saw a book from Russia that had a complete overview of historical costume based mostly on archeological remains. All in Cyrilic. Very impressive; I couldn't ... ah... buy it, at the time. I would make contact with Russian reenactors. Armenian history is facinating. Ultramarine and all t...

Remember that depictions of "enemies" in Biblical scenes tend to be more allegorical (more fantasy armour, more scale, etc.) rather than what is traditionally worn in Europe of the piece's time. How do you know that? Could it be inspired by foriegn armours they are familiar with? The use of scale, ...

I dont think you can just say Goliath was viewed as a knight, i would need convincing and some form of documentation other than you just stating it. If he were a knight why is he wearing a kettle, this is not a knightly helmet, and would certainly be below his station. What in the illumination make...

However, the most interesting image here is that of Goliath. ... I find this image disturbing--did the artists and sponsor really see Goliath (the very biblical image of giant brute) as a knight? Given this image, I would rather doubt that this source could really be used as sufficient proof that k...

The only reason the SCA claims to be educating anybody is so that it can keep its Non-profit status. I'm encouraged that someone has the balls to admit that. As I said in another thread, if the SCA presented itself as essentially a social organization with a primary emphasis on entertainment inspir...

If you are just starting into this, I think a good introduction is The Face of Battle by John Keegan. Details: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0140048979/104-9804797-4144702?v=glance Get it at the library. It has a good intro on the experience of battle for the combatants. Includes a d...

Stepping aside from the minutiae a minute, you nuts (;) ), is there any indication as to what the "cut" of the garment is? Tantalizing, isn't it? How about this: High power CAT scan. Export the dataset to a 3D Modeling program. Define the collision parameters for the links. Add physics. Shake out t...

I seem to recall something about artifact remains of a people that were from North Africa, and preceded all the European inhabitants.
