Re: Armor in New York
Not a museum, but hit up the Strand Bookstore (on the corner of 12th St. and Broadway) for their armor books. Second Floor, back, technically the "heraldry" section. Only bookstore in the city (that I know of) that has an arms/armor section. The Strand is a dangerous, dangerous, wallet-shrinking pla...

Re: Off topic - History Channel Jousting Auditons
In all seriousness, I love the idea of a jouster being compared to a young Virgin Mary. (Or a young Louise Ciccone.)Andrew Sterner wrote:some jousters are complete premadonnas.

Re: A Discussion of the Old and Modern Styles
The issue with boffers isn't simply whether or not the boffers are good to use as simulators, the problem is that fighting without the expectation of serious injury or death is crap. No one who hasn't faced that before can know what it really feels like, and every person will react differently in t...

Re: Is armour art?
Armor is not art. Certainly my instructors and the curators at the Art Institute of Chicago did not think so. If not for the contracts they had in place for certain pieces of art in their collection that required that they take and display the armor, they would not have it in the museum. That is od...

That knee to the groin pic...let me guess. Unbelted Champions? That was our wee Baron Karl Meerstapa, of Duchy Von Drachenklaue. He weighs about 140lbs soaking wet, and looking at the picture, I think he was being pushed back and the stumble caused the leg lift. Karl doesn't have a nasty bone in hi...

Congratulations to His Royal Highness of the Middle Kingdom. As another unbelted polearmsman, I am especially excited to see this. That said... And yet you are so quick to judge...While its nice to take such pride in our world, you might want to ask the questions before judging me. Effingham did ask...

Pictures from Royal Armouries and Kelvingrove
So about a week ago I got back from a trip to Scotland and England. My girlfriend took 500 pictures, of which about 350 are of armour. (Yes, I have the best girlfriend ever.) Thought you all would like to see the shots. Kelvingrove: http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b367/Ajakutty/BritainJan10/Glasgo...

WTB SCA Coppergate helm
I WTB a Coppergate style helm for SCA combat. At least, I want to know what the options are out there, looking at portraying a 9th-century thegn under Aelfred the Great. Priorities: 1) Cost - UNDER $500 or so - I can't afford the gorgeous Coppergate up on Knotwolf's site right now... 2) Period appea...

I'll just add that, while I won the round robin with no losses (unless if you count Duke Edmund pounding me into the ground as we were the last two fighters in the opening melee), Damon was very close, with only one loss. There were lots of great fights, both to engage in and to watch. Thanks again,...

I gave Lupus Argentus those polearm shots and was damn surprised - but the gaunts held up. They seem to be much more tank than the other (Sir Brand) aluminum gauntlets I've seen. Personally, I think Llewelyn is short-changing himself to sell the gauntlets at that price. If I didn't already have a go...
