I personally think that a Battle of Civitate event would be awesome! The trick might being getting enough Byzantine-esque fellows to make the numbers even close to equal... but surely The self-declared Emperor of the East could take care of that. Excllent idea, Egfroth. :D Actually, a "battl...

It's Bill the Bastard! He's been unhorsed! http://www.pixures.be/hast/ings5/pages/hst68528.htm That's the pic just before it. That's me with the swirly yellow and blue shield at the bottom, left-of-center. I had no idea that you were being carried off. Probably, I didn't even know that group was "E...

Gah! Anyone able to down load it? I can't watch buffering videos that download so slow, it drives me nuts. I think those are the only kind I "get". I just go do something else while the danged thing is buffering. After that, you can rewatch them; but not this one, for some reason; you have to close...

I was an archer on the Norman side on Sunday, what an awesome battle. Hope you all had a good time and your journeys to the UK for the event was a thing worthy of respect, talk about dedication. Here you go Odo. We had the pleasure of fighting next to both Sir Richard and Sir Robert. Thanks Egfroth. Some nice images there, but nothing to beat those two short clips of the cavalry charging! Wouldn't it be cool if some more daring footage from within the combat zone surfaced?

Mail rust removal and protection

I know this has been talked about before, (ad nausem to some folks I bet). But could those willing, please chime in and recommend their favorite rust preventative? After four days of sweating in my mail at Hastings, I find the outside still looks great, but the INSIDE is covered with a light coating...

It (safety) counts on human discipline. It would be nice to also see someone acknowlege that eventually that discipline will fail and someone is going to lose an eye, but I won't press it. Someday, someone is going to lose an eye playing with bows and arrows. Someday, somebody is going to die on th...

While it happens, direct none volley fire seems to be much rarer. In the direct fire situations, it is required of the archer to have undeniable eye contact (and an approving nod at times) with you before he fires. Really? I hadn't heard of this restriction. And in my (limited) experience, I have b...

I love that last pic- it's so reminiscent of the rows of near-identical knights you see in the tapestry (mostly the Saxons, though, being on foot). K To get this side angle shot with all the shields facing the same direction: isn't this a "bore's snout" being formed? I heard that at least one of th...

I have enjoyed every picture of the Franco-Flemish contingent that I have seen. Those guys were simply the best.
