Re: Fighting as a workout - How do you train?
I'm very similar to bishop. Preworkout, BCAA's, and protein. I treat it like it's a cardio based workout in my cycle. I make sure I do my heavy lifting on Monday. (Deadlifts, squats, cleans, ect) My practices are on Friday/Sunday so I want to be fully recovered by then. I push myself at practice lik...

Re: Mandrake Tips on Fiberglass Spears Illegal in Aethelmear
Did we have any Mandrake issues the year we used the BB's? I saw the best spear calibration I have seen in 10 years that war. Since the BB'd do not degrade and allow the tip to squeeze between a grill why again did we move away from them? I know after they were banned we did a test here in the East ...

Re: New video series on fighting technique
Too bad we missed each other on the pickup field, Euric. That's ok though, Pennsic gets crazy! Your new kit that you posted is looking awesome. For everyone following the training video series, we just uploaded a new instructional video. This one is the 'Crucifix', consisting of a defensive ward fo...

Re: Helmet Cam video of GNEW
Yeah I see who you are talking about. I think Sir Angus (the Roman) turned his head toward him right at the last moment. But, I was on the other side of the field at the time, and on the other team. For most of that segment the guy was hunting down Duke Lucan. The field battle was a bit nuts this y...

Re: Has this been evaluated for SCA combat yet?
Unless Zoombang has gone down in price (dramatically), it's not that much more. And after watching the videos, it looks like it might function better. Just wanted to see if it had been evaluated for use. My Zoombang Shirt was 175, one of those shirts is 394. (I'm comparing the jacket, it has simila...

Awesome I thought I recognized the helm! I will be at Pennsic, also with a new kit, and will look you up for some pickups. I will be there the second week and will live on that field!

Dietrich,
Off topic, but is this you on the left? I am on the right. This was two Pennsic's ago. We chatted for a few during that hold. (You were trying to club me, I was trying to avoid being clubbed )
Love the videos. Been a subscriber since you started. Keep em coming!

Re: Zoom Bang
I practice with Dukes and high end pole fighters that are powerlifters. I wear zoombang under some light armor. I have been absolutely crushed with only the zoombang being hit. It hurt, but I was fine. It's the real deal and I friggan love the stuff.

Re: New low profile padding. Anyone have any experience with
The pads look great. Their shin pads would be perfect under greaves. For the compression shirt I would stick with Zoombang. The G-Form shirts do not have enough coverage I don't think. As someone that uses Zoombang, it would take quite a lot of convincing to pull me away from it.

Re: Weight Training for SCA fighting
Been looking into a weighted vest for a "simulated" armor feel. Outside of that, as others have said, Kettlebells! I've been an athlete all my life. 3-4x a week in the gym as well to stay fit. Switched to kettlebells about two months ago and they have been kicking my ass in the best of ways. I went ...

If you guys are having trouble getting the zoombang off due to a fit, just put some Under Armor underneath it. Works like a charm.

Find someone way better than you. Does not have to be Chiv. Put time aside each week to work together outside of fight practice. Do slow work, come up with fighting specific workouts. Talk about the psychology of fighting, work on footwork. I'm in pretty good shape, and I've fought in amazing, rippe...

Town- Whatever side was attacking was sure to win. The town was a bit too big to defend for long. Bridge- LOVE the 5, 15 min Bridges. Made it far more intense, and caused more aggressive play. Woods- Always love the woods. Field- 5 battles was a great idea. Gave us all plenty of fighting, and allowe...
