protecting brass from tarnishing?

Does anyone have any clever ideas for keeping a nice shine on brass? I've made myself some new plaque belts, and I'm startlingly lazy - meaning I freakin' hate continually polishing my fighting belts. I was thinking of a spray on clear varnish or something, but if anyone has experience with a method...

one of the best things that you can ever do for your fighting is...

wear gear that fits.

You've inspired people to make grand gestures - and that's fantastic. Glad you had a good time at war!

I know that Lord Eirik Andersen of Ealdormere was there with his camera, so once he's back from war they'll be up on his www.tworavens.org site.

It was a very good fight. There were some spectacular kits, and the melee was very satisfying. The spectators seemed to enjoy themselves also, and I saw at least 3 people with cameras and one fellow with a camcorder. Hopfully we'll see some good footage of the event when everyone gets back from war!...

Well, the daggers worked out just fine! I managed to actually use mine in the Combat of the Thirty yesterday on one of the english lads. He was better then I was, so I couldnt get the capture - but my trusty rondel ended the discussion in a fairly pointed manner.

I was so impressed with that rondel dagger, that I made 3 of my own. I'll keep one, and give the other two to some friends of mine who are also fighting in the combat of the thirty at pennsic this year. I just have to tape 'em up now...

Well, I've got a set that I've only used once - I managed to snag a pair of stainless bell cuffs, so I don't actually need 'em anymore.

If you're interested, make me an offer. They're in good shape, they've just got a shade of surface rust on them.

I like those from CelticWarriors...you had no concerns about not having an enclosed thumb? Is there padding between the metal and the glove? I had some concerns, right up until I used them. I got POUNDED in the hands during melees while I was using a poleaxe, and didnt feel a thing. The gauntlets d...

Well, I picked up this set of gauntlets for 325 and I used them throughout Lilies war this year - with spear, poleaxe, sword and shield as well as singlesword. Weapon feel was superlative (to the point where i actually forgot I was using a crosshilt sword during a couple of singlesword bouts), and w...

I fought in mine (the bell cuff ones with the red leather gloves in the picture posted above) all through Lilies this year. Fought with spear, cross-hilt sword and poleaxe and took a LOT of shots to the hand. At least, it looks like I did. It's hard to tell - if you look at the gauntlets there's a l...

I've etched up belt plaques and other things in brass and steel. Looks pretty good, and I cheat by using vinyl stickers that I get printed up as the resist.

brass piercework on armour

I'm starting to play around with my scrollsaw and cutting designs in brass. Does anyone have any examples of piercework done in brass and then stuck to armour bitz? I use (believe it or not), terrycloth. I made a quick one to test out using a period liner, and I used cotton canvas as the shell, with some linen as an interior lining.
