Gavin, if it was reasonable then everyone would do it and it would not be awesome.

Re: Who got it right this year??
Hell I was happy I did not completely shame myself on the field this year. I have not been going to practice at all. My old leather armor I thought that I put away nice and dry in an air tight box had a forest of green with black and white dots all over it. Well I have been wanting a kit change for ...

Re: Who got it right this year??
The Tuchux. They had a bunch of new dogs this year and from what I could tell their entire unit stayed together well hit hard, hit fast and kept moving. A couple of the new dogs it appeared to not understand some of the rules but they were quickly straitened out by the rest of the tribes.

Re: What's your fighting style? Brawler, sniper etc...
If we are talking about singles I will set a tempo and then suddenly change it by moving in or out of range till you make a mistake.
In melee if I am fighting polearm I will wait and counterpunch when a charge happens and make people cry.

Re: Pennsic and House Bloodgaurd
The thing is numbers help but they are not always telling. Does anyone seriously think for a moment that some of these kings/queens and war leaders would trade of the experiance Atlantian army (lots of fun scraping with you guys) for a brand new household full of newly authorized fighters even if th...

Re: Pennsic and House Bloodgaurd
If your on the side that has the numbers, the odds are you are going to win and you can be more flexible with your battle plans. Bein outnumbered however gives you a chance for glory. They both have their places at Pennsic.

Re: Pennsic and House Bloodgaurd
Yes the idea of BG comming over was nice but I think they should have stayed with the east. I for one would would rather take my ass whooping when we are out numbered. Life is not fair neither is war. ***Next statement is not at anyone in particular, if you take it to heart thats your fault.*** If y...

The woods were fun but i was not at my best that day. I had 2 bags of fluids pumped into me by the EMTs at about 2300 the night before. Took 7 different veins before they could find a good one. That being said the fight was fun if a bit slow on our end of the field. There were times when there were ...

While i can understand the idea behind this i am not thrilled with the possibility of it excluding new people from getting into the SCA. I remember when i first started out. It was more about getting out on the field and learning to fight than having an authentic looking kit. How many people are not...

In my opinion leave no doubt should be the idea when fighting. If i have to guess if your shot was good or not it is not good for either of us. Say i am hit with a questionable shot and then have to "weigh" if it was good or not. Am i throwing a shot at you while i process this information is my def...

My original game plan was to leave Chicago around 0700 and caravan with 3-4 others from Clovenshield west. To bad that things fell through for everyone else so i was delayed till 1500 :x 8 hours of driving solo for 1 day of fighting somehow was worth it to see the rest of my household and attempt to...

You can do whatever you want. Ok not really but you can try. However there consequences for your actions. Go ahead and wear that white belt and spurs around an sca event even if you havent earned the right. Go ahead and put some "tin" on your helm or make yourself a crown if you want. Go ahead and p...

If i remember correctly my suit weighs in at 68 pounds not counting weapons. Most of the weight comes in with the helm. Big head means a big bucket and most of the helm is 10 gage. At practice i normally fight with a fairly light polearm cant weigh more than 3-4 pounds. At pennsic this year i was us...

I think the better solution might be to use larger rattan and shave it down. I regularly use 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 rattan and run 2 sides through a table saw to provide 2 flat sides. I have very little flex but I do get told I'm using a cut down 2x4. My 2 coin, Stephen Yeah this is what i do as well. I fi...

I have found that in a "WAR" falling down reduces the number of blows. I feel that it looks better too. I do get the hell off the ground quickly though, as too many are happy to stand on me. The whole "Lay there and be an obstacle" school has no idea how little I imped the enemy when I am on the gr...

One of my favorites is when i am stuck in a press and get wacked i yell dead. People still hit me i say "dead" again. Then they often say fall down. I then say "where i have 5 ranks pushing me from behind, 3 of your ranks pusing me from the front". Often they realize that opps sorry occasionally som...

If i feel my foe is about to take a blow that i think they shouldnt i will tell them so. If i am in a tourney i prefer to loudly let my foe know his blow was good. Either i will say "good" or "dead". In a melee it depends if i am killed in the middle of a rush from the enemy i will fall dead so they can continue. Then i pray i dont get crushed as i try to protect myself with a polearm. ...
