I have one, but I'm not sure it's combat grade. I'll try to get pictures for you soon.

Re: Identify a suit..

If you watch Game of Thrones, there was a character (Ser Vardis) wearing an almost identical set of armor - different helmet though. He was the one Bronn fought in the Eyrie during Tyrion's trial by combat.

Re: WTB Blacksmithing tools

One of the contestants on "Forged in Fire" was a guy named Trent Tye, of Purgatory Iron Works. He's got a channel on Youtube with LOTS of helpful videos. I appreciate his attitude - "don't worry if you can't afford 50 hammers, 20 tongs, and a $300 anvil, here are things you can afford while you're g...

Re: WTB Blacksmithing tools

I saw this video recently, on turning long handled pliers from HF into tongs suitable for railroad spikes:

I'm sure they can be modified for other purposes as well.

Re: A question about vises

Ok, I'll keep looking for vise ideas. I'll also get some more practice with the twisting wrench.

Marcos, I wish I could take credit for the picture above, but I just found it as an example of the sort of thing I'd like to do.

A question about vises

I've been dallying with blacksmithing recently, and want to try my hand at something like this: http://img0.etsystatic.com/000/0/6323495/il_fullxfull.264033938.jpg The thought occurred to me that a vise with a gap in the center (making the vise kind of "U" shaped) would be very handy at making symme...

Re: WTB Chainmaille scraps

I have remarkably little experience with it myself, other than stripping a necklace of galvy chainmaille as an experiment. Yes, it eagerly wanted to rust after that. If I were to experiment further, I'd rinse, dry, and oil it right after its bath. Neutralizing the vinegar with more than just running...

Re: WTB: Game of Thrones inspired armour

There are a number of those that are being made or have been made by folks on the Replica Prop Forum (www.therpf.com) but I haven't seen any in steel. I haven't looked at every one, though.

If nothing else, their build threads should give folks plenty of ideas about how it could be done.

Not furniture, but I've enjoyed making desktop trebuchets and onagers. I still need to build a ballista at some point.

Other than the neglect, it is a pretty piece of work. I think I'll clean it up, wax it, and make some sort of display.

Re: Questions about setting up blades on throatless shear

I have the HF model, and that's pretty much how I set mine - precision isn't my strong suit, I tend to eyeball it. I know it's not a Beverly, and I'm not using every weekend, much less every day, but I've been very pleased with its performance. Now if they'd just go back to selling replacement blade...
