Re: Fighting outside the field at Pennsic

Thank you milords.... I may do that, though I have to rethink it, because you have to admit that all the planning and notification take away a lot of the fun aspect, which is the impromptu, spontaneous spirit of such a bout... though I completely understand the constrains and the issues involving t...

Re: Fighting outside the field at Pennsic

On a second thought, since most people only wear fighting gear to the battlefield, maybe futile as well.... might end up spending my time just waiting like an idiot and pissing off non fighters which is extra un-cool.... Never mind... :? ...unless you happened to have mentioned on some message boar...

Re: How high-impact is heavy list, medically speaking?

The great bascinet has pretty much the glancing lines of regular bascinets - but it rides on your shoulders, rather than your head. Makes it possible to very greatly reduce impact to your noggin. Can be a challenge to calibrate as a side effect. Ah, I see now. Thank you for clarifying that. The hel...

mental note.: DONT move to An-Tir as a lefty... got it :D .. Our lefties don't seem to be at any disadvantage, even without "arm hunting". Also, there's a big difference between active arm sniping and incidental arm taking. I only got out to practice in An Tir a few times while I lived in Madrone, ...

Re: How high-impact is heavy list, medically speaking?

I wonder if my left tear was due to insufficient padding on my stainless great helm? I was polearm-clocked pretty hard at one point, and while I later added more padding to address that, it's always run through my head about whether I'd already aggravated my issues. Be glad you never had the bubble....

Re: How high-impact is heavy list, medically speaking?

Thank you for your input, everyone! I think what I'm taking away from this is that, so long as I make a point of getting an excellent helm, pad it with something better than some strips of blue foam (or, sadly, probably period liners), it's probably safe enough - though it is an excellent idea to tr...

How high-impact is heavy list, medically speaking?

Over the summer, I was finally able to get to a doctor to have partial loss of vision in my left eye checked out. It turned out that I was suffering from a detached retina. If I'd not gotten to the doctor when I did, the detachment would probably have proceeded all the way to the macula, and I'd be ...

How large is the corn maze, and is this basically the last thing that's happening with it in the season? If so, and you can make modifications to it, you could set up a fortification assault. Maybe do maze activities in the first half of the day, and chop it up for the next scenario during a rest br...

Lupus - you are correct, it is pretty close but I think there are enough significant points of difference to conclude that they're not the same (visor, great helm, chain #3). Its interesting though, that particular pose is fairly common amongst effigies of that period. The splints are pretty distin...

Multiple Field Battles w/o rez

Diverging off of the "duel protocol" thread, I did see the germ of an idea which interested - the concept of a death in one battle rendering one unavailable in the next. I was wondering if anyone had ever tried such a thing, in specific a series (say maybe 3 or 4) of field-style battles where death ...

After all we have LARPs, SCA and rebated steel on the list. I wouldn't LARP with the sort of condition described, either, except as a non-combatant. Non-armour:Any interest in old Dragon magazines?

My housemate has 51 Dragon magazines ranging from issue 37 to issue 282, with the majority falling in the 50-100 range. It really depends on the individual LARP, not just because of weapon construction rules but also because of use rules - some games require 2 handed contact at all times but allow movement of those hands, some require two handed static placement, and some don't care. I've got to assume the latter two...
