@ jarlragnar, The padded cuisses are made of a few layers of linen and a bit of batting. than I wear a simple knee pad under. Behind the knee is a leather quilted pad, and than the knee cop. I have them tightly strapped but my guess is it is all in the construction! and if you follow the link below ...

Maybe it is just me but I dont see this helm and think, "I should make one in the same construction" but think about a way to do it so that we could have a low profile helm.
