Re: St George - Hradcany Square - Body armour - Update!

After Having Downloaded all the high res pics and trying to find the best angle of the gaunts, both left and right, it appears they are either riveted at the cuff, probably to leather as there seems to be a row if rivets on the metacarpal plate and on the cuff on the left gaunt, or have a decoration...

Re: Pembridge helm details

suzerain wrote as I understand it, the rate they quoted; £20 for 2 images, and then £5 per image after (plus VAT (equivalent of US' sales tax)) is their non-commercial fee rate, for them to be used in one paper. I'm sure there's a different rate for if it were a commercial enterprise such as a book,...

Re: &*%$#!! aluminum!

Totally agree, I use it for back of the head protection for fencing masks, and I have a 50 % success rate. I also use the 25 ton echo craft former at work, so it actually does move it, but its still springy and takes alot of passes to get it to move. I use 90 thou thickness too, I think I could make...

Re: &*%$#!! aluminum!

Hi IM, just thought Id chime in on the use of the aluminum you have, its great for things that dont have alot of shape to them like sheilds, but 6061 is very brittle and doesnt like to take complex shapes, it kinda pulls apart rather than stretch, so if you try to make it stretch too far it will jus...

Re: MIG welded mail progress pix

Any pics of anyones set up, sounds like it would be faster than doing riveted and way less OCD. Riveted takes waaaaaay too long. The way you were doing it Wade sounds faster than even butted mail.

Re: Safety Warning - MetalMan Welding Helmet

I've got a speedglass brand helmet, use it everyday, 8 hrs a day. The only time I get flashburn is when Im in a hurry to do some little tacks and dont put it on, only takes 2 or 3 tacks and I've got a sunburn. Working within 10 ft 0f someone is guaranteed to give you flashburn too. You get what you ...

Re: New to making finger gaunts...tips needed (pic heavy)

Originally gaunts werent meant to make you a super hero, they were to give a professional warrior a second chance,or turn a big owie into a little booboo. Most of the gaunts I've made aren't even padded,( 1 pair is, out of 6) for the simple reason your hands arent static targets, they move when they...

Re: New to making finger gaunts...tips needed (pic heavy)

I totally agree with Randall and BNRichard, too much padding and not enough shape to the metacarple plate. its hard to tell on the originals, but the metacarple plate appears to have between 1/2 and 3/4 of an inch in raising/dishing on the metacarple plate at the knuckle, and experience has shown me...

Re: New to making finger gaunts...tips needed (pic heavy)

Welcome to the wonderful world of gaunts, they are without a doubt the hardest piece of armour to get right. the only short cut advice I can give you, is to make them as protective as you can in the fully closed position (grasping a weapon), then worry about the articulation. I cant stress this enou...

Re: New to making finger gaunts...tips needed (pic heavy)

I've made a few sets of gaunts, and I've found the exact answer I think your looking for. Gaunts are made for protecting your hands while holding a weapon, NOT typing, doing up buckles, or tying up your shoes, they are always the last thing on and the first thing off, so make them so they give full ...
