Re: how to cut thick leather?

I have found leather cuts better when it is slightly damp. I have used a rotary cutter with a large diameter blade with success.

Multiple passes as has been said.

Are there concerns that the coronet will snag rattan and become damaged? Of the coronets on helmets that I have seen, they sat flush to the surface like the one in St George's post.

Steel SCA samurai armour - Is it out there?

Most SCA renditions of samurai armour seem to be done in plastic, and many look quite passable as lacquered metal. However, from my limited perspective, steel seems to be avoided by many in this style. Who are using steel in the construction of their samurai armour? To those that are using steel, wh...

When you have white in your design, do you just leave the silk undyed or do you put something on it? It looked like you were brushing something into the field around the green cross on part 3 but I did not see any color.

I fully understand your respect of Zweihammer's intellectual property and your desire to not steal his patterns. It is unfortunate that you can't get in touch with him to ask, but if you are just going to trace the good one to replace the the one that was botched, I wouldn't think Erik would have a ...

I agree. I think he is a pretty knowledgeable guy. However, I think more people from other historical interest groups would be interested in his school if it wasn't for his egotistical, condescending, self-serving attitude. I pretty much agreed with everything Clements said in the article up until h...

Re: Not what you think it is.

I think Clements makes a point that most don't know anything about swordfighting, but he does not think that it also applies to him. Really, none of us know what it is like to fight to the death, with the intent to kill with a sword. We may hit full force with sticks or blunted steel replicas of wea...

Here is a step by step of Eric Thing raising a norman helm. http://www.anvilfire.com/21centbs/armor/NormanHelmet/top_index.htm The profile would be similar to a sugarloaf skull. He just started out with a circle and then trimmed the edges. Now, if you are dishing and welding the halves. Have you che...

Is BotN just armoured wrestling?

I agree that BotN looks pretty cool and a lot of fun. But really, how effective are the weapons in the game? Looking at the group fights, it seems those that are pushing and kicking and tripping are more effective than those swinging weapons. Are the weapons really useful in combat strategy to win? ...

If I remember correctly, there was someone here that made maces with rubber doorstops as clackers. Seemed like a good idea but the head might be over-large. For some reason I thought it was a Calontiri.

Floor for armour shop

A few years ago I purchased a portable shed with a wooden floor to use as an armour shop. I had planned to share a portion of the space with my wife so she would have a place to do stained glass. Unfortunately, my tools took up more space than I had planned and left very little space for her to work...
