Re: Next West Kingdom Crown Format
Hi Guys, The concerns over this format promoting "Arm Hunting" and bigger shields have been brought up by a few people in different venues (AA, Facebook, in person, etc.). I feel like people should learn to defend their arms, instead of blocking their heads with their arms, I feel that this practice...

Re: Next West Kingdom Crown Format
Hi Ghosteh, Destructive double kills serve 2 functions in this kind of list: 1) Time management. These fights MIGHT run a little longer, and refighting a bout that has gone all 6 blows might run the tournament too long to be practical. 2) I want to encourage clean fighting. Sometimes we fight overly...

Heavy Longsword manual in the style of Meyer.
So, on the way to West/Antir, I was struck by an idea. "I'll write a guide to SCA Heavy longsword in the style of Joachim Meyer, my favorite period master, that will be interesting, and it'll get more heavies looking at period sources." The project took on a life of its own. I just finished it, at 1...

Mandrake bascinet pattern?
Does anyone have the old mandrake bascinet pattern floating around?
I really like the low profile of the skull, and want to remake my current helmet in thicker stainless.
I seem to remember that the pattern was out and about a few years ago.
Thanks

Re: Fighting after back injury - your experiences?
Hi, I was in a bad car accident as a kid that threatened my ability to walk, and have had some back issues most of my life, culminating in debilitating pain about 6 years ago. Egoscue was immensely helpful, as was daily stretching and soft tissue work with a foam roller and lacrosse balls. I have a ...

Re: WTS gambesons.com Gambeson (price drop)
Hi Columb,
When I jam a yardstick into my armpit and hold it along my arm, its 24 inches from my armpit to the bend of the wrist.
The gambeson sleeve comes down to the middle of my hand.
Does that help?
I can actually get a tape measure at home and do different measurements if you need.

Re: safety with finger bucklers?
Been fighting in non grounding visbys with finger bucklers for a couple years now. My bucklers have a leather strap that goes under the ring and middle fingers. I have a small shock-cord loop sewn to the strap that goes over the knuckle of the middle finger, just to make sure it doesnt fly off. The ...

Re: Fingers, mittens and thumbs for SCA Heavy Combat
Ive been fighting longsword in the SCA 2-3 times a week with finger gauntlets for about 2 1/2 years. I use finger bucklers and have a very shallow enclosed thumbtip. Ive been hurt less in the finger gauntlets than I was in mittens, because these gauntlets were made for my hands, and the bucklers hel...

WTS gambesons.com Gambeson (price drop)
I have a medium black gambeson from Master Gareth that has been fought in once. It should fit a 43"-44" chest, and up to about a 38" waist It has two sets of arming points for shoulders and arms. Positive review for Tengushin
I ordered a 2mm hardened spring steel bascinet with blocked oculars for BotN style fighting from Tengushin. He responded to all emails within a day, usually within hours. From the time I sent the deposit, he completed my helm in about 2 weeks, and I had the helmet on my doorstep 2 weeks after paying...

Re: Back injury and fighting question.
Hi Glaukos, I ruptured a disk about six years ago. I also had a really nasty flare up in these last 6 months. I had incredible results after the initial injury and during moderate flair ups with the Egoscue method. The stretches can be a little time consuming, but no single thing produced better res...

Gambesons.com/Master Gareth is the MAN!
Gareth makes a great product, and always has. That said, I was having some fitting issues due to being built funny, and Gareth went FAR beyond what I could have reasonably expected to make sure I had a proper 14thc gambeson that let me look and move the way I needed to. I would not hesitate to order...
