Re: Tool Critique - Shears

I have one of those, I use it to cut up full size sheets to manageable sizes. Haven't tried it yet on anything but straight lines. I save those long pigtails and roll the up tighter and flat. I mark which sheet they came off of and use them to gas weld seams. Makes the welds less visible once you p...

Re: Tool Critique - Shears

A good score, I too hope it last you many years. A trick I use for the sharp metal shards that fall to the floor. I have a magnet with a string on it stuck to the side of my Beverly. Stooping over can be a chore when you get to 68 years. ;-) Best of luck on your quest. Hal I like that idea Hal! Ben...

Re: Tool Critique - Shears

Be careful, I ended up with a small C shaped pigtail stck the the sole of my shoes more than once. Much longer or slightly different shape would have gone through the sole of my work boot and into my foot. Not really a good idea to cut steel in deck shoes, crocks, or flip flops... Only good work bo...

Tool Critique - Shears

I do not have a nice Beverly sheer, so I have always been stuck using a jigsaw or sawzall for cutting steel. I have been fairly successful with Harbor Freight tools, especially for just home use. Up until now, all I have seen them carry has been crappy beverly knockoffs and sheers that wil only take...

Some food for thought Jakob, Moving your bear to the top will likely reduce it's size since you are going above your boss. If that is your preference no problem. However, if the shield boss is your concern, you can make the argent area wider and the bear bigger so it covers your boss, paint your bo...

I got to take a look at it last night, and really appreciate all of the help. I realy liked the "Vert, on a pale argent a bear rampant between two pallets sable." 'cept I would like to move the bear to the top. I believe this would be blazoned as follows... let me know if I need any final changes. ...

Just tossing out my two cents.

Using the same colors and bear rampant, I offer this simple design for consideration. Just don't ask me how to say it in heraldic terms.

Here are the blazons (heraldic descriptions) of all three. I'm numbering from left to right, not using the "preference" numbers accompanying the images. #1: Per bend argent and purpure, a frog turgiant and a fleur-de-lis counterchanged. (In this case, "counterchanged" serves both charges.) #2: Pily...

What is it in heraldic language? Maybe I can do a check on it? Per bend argent and purpure a frog and a fleur-de-lys counter changed. It appears to be free of conflict. No per bend argent and purpure with a frog. Or with a fleur-de-lys either. I haven't checked with other colors yet. Have at it. Is...

"Turgiant" is what they call the "bird's-eye view" of an animal, most commonly a reptile or amphibian. It's the default position for turtles and tortoises. And let me reiterate what Konstantin said, we DO get a kick out of doing this stuff - it's why most of us became heralds! Thanks for the descri...

Okay.... expansions and contractions kind of threw me at first also. They really are exactly what they mean. Expansion ring is an additional ring added to your maille to make it larger. Contraction ring is using a ring to draw in the rings of the weave to make it smaller. Aside from that basic expla...

I will go with this one now that the flory fitchys have been thickened just a bit if there are no conflicts.
